We had a great turnout of 23 players on Saturday, filling the store to capacity with Vintagey goodness. Dave P. Baum and the Pop! shop were great and accommodating hosts, allowing us also to set up the streaming rig. In case you missed it, the event is archived here for the time being: http://www.twitch.tv/seriousvintage/v/25777585.

Thanks to everyone who came out! I'll be in touch with the Ohio store owners this week to schedule the first part of 2016.

When the dust had settled, 8 players stood out of the crowd, and they played it out to the finish.

After Swiss:
1. Stephen McGrew - URW Delver
2. Jake Hilty - Gush/Oath Tendrils
3. Geoff Moes - Glass City Vault
4. Steven Sasala - Merfolk
5. Duane Haddix - Tiny Robots
6. Alec Capas - Grixis Thieves
7. Kyle Lenox - Dark Petition Storm
8. Sam Krohlow - Doomsday

Interestingly, the top four all lost to the second four.

Krohlow (Doomsday) beat McGrew (Delver)
Lenox (DPS) beat Hilty (Gush/Oath Tendrils)
Capas (Thieves) beat Moes (Glass City Vault)
Haddix (Robots) beat Sasala (Merfolk)

In the Top 4:

Lenox (DPS) beat Capas (Thieves)
Haddix (Robots) beat Krohlow (Doomsday)

Haddix (Robots) beat Lenox (DPS) in the finals! Tiny Robots everywhere!

I am so sorry I was not able to make this. Brassman that deck is beautiful sir. If they are gonna restrict chalice then just use all the broken one and zero costing artifacts and get there. Contested War Zone was clutch how many games? I really am in love with that deck sir.

Thanks! Though I have to say that most of this deck has been around for a while, if anything I made some very minor tweaks and rediscovered that's it's effective in the new meta. The Contested War Zone's are entirely Duane's tech, and I'm also looking forward to hearing how the worked out for him!

Sam Krohlow's Doomsday list appears to be a few cards short.  Any idea what's missing?

I've always seen Gaea's Cradle in those Genesis Chamber decks.  Any reason why it was absent?  The #1 copy seems better than #4 contested war zone.  At a very minimum, Gaea's Cradle is better than Strip Mine here.

Also, with contested warzone, how many people played it correctly?  Each time you lose control of it, you are supposed to tap it for colorless mana so the opponent gets it tapped.

Honestly, the only reason I didn't try a Cradle is because I don't own one. Tolarian Academy was (of course) really solid all day, but, looking back, I'm not sure if Cradle would have been nearly as good: if you have a few dudes out, you're probably in a pretty good spot already and probably would prefer a utility land. Even Tolarian wasn't as necessary as I thought it was going to be when I included Expedition Map. The Maps didn't do any work all day, being cast once and never activated. They were great for siding out, though. I'm considering leaving one in the 75 and adding a Karakas, as Oath is probably the worst matchup.

The Warzones were a ton of fun, but I'm not sure if they are a tactically better choice than the Wastelands I replaced: all but one of my opponents seemed to have never seen the card before. It was very good as a followup to Genesis Chamber, as beating with three or four 1/1s and an active Warzone ended many of my games. It was also useful to sandbag in my hand until I had enough guys on board to swing for lethal after the activation. Most of the time I didn't mind if the Warzone changed hands, as I had a ton of dudes that could claim it back during my next turn before they could untap it. The one time my opponent was able to activate (and kill me with) my Warzones, I think I would have lost anyway. Though I definitely punted a game because I wasn't using the card correctly.

I'm certain that Academy is way better than Cradle, but I still think Cradle #1 seems really good in the list.

Maybe over an expedition map then.

Karakas has been great, I've put it in my normal (non-tiny robots) MUD list recently and have been very happy.  I honestly can't believe I wasn't playing it before, and now that Baby Jace is lurking around it gets even more important.  In a vacuum, it's probably aslo better than strip mine.

I rushed out and bought 4 FOIL genesis chambers after I caught wind of this list.  The card has been on my radar for quite sometime now, and I finally pulled the trigger.  Of all things, I might play it in Modern Affinity.  Go straight MUD affinity with Mutavaults instead of Glimmervoid and jam chamber.  I've always hated cards like Springleaf Drum as well, so cut that and add more threats.  Maybe maindeck Revokers.

Have you given any consideration to Steel Overseer in this list?  Maybe out of the sideboard.  Again, I have a more traditional MUD list with Ravages and Hangarback Walker in the main, and Steel Overseer out of the board in the mirror match has been really good.
