Check it out:

http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=5410

It was supposed to be all in one part - but he has divided it up, and saved all the combo decks for tommorrow, as well as some ancilliary analysis.

I will be writing monthly (approximately) articles.  They will generally all be long and have a rather serious tone.

Let me know what you think.

I just read the article.  I thought it was good at establishing a 'gauntlet' of decks that will be present.  Noticably missing however, are 3 decks that I expect to see in force.  (I don't expect these to be combos.  Unless there is still an aggro portion to come, but then, wouldn't TnT be included there?)  Where are Fish, Suicide, and Sligh (Ankh/Goblin).  These are mostly 'budget' decks, but Ankh sligh is competitive, and I always see fish around.

Hi Steve,

i'm looking forward to reading part 2.

Steve, liked your article. Thanks for sharing the possible meta game for GenCon...... Well, it seems that no one is rooting for TnT this year....      Well, I'll try it anyway.  It is either that, mexican zoo or WW.   Wink

Well written and I think it was an accurate analysis...I have been working towards fixing many of the weaknesses you pointed out TnT has...I think I have been fairly successful in accomplishing this but all will be unveiled in due time. I unfortunately will not be able to attend gencon but I will unveil it soon.

Thanks Guys.  I really hope the Combo part makes an impact.  Part one was basically rehashing old business - part two is really the cutting edge part. I really hope the Gencon Metgame is fully developed.

Steve,

After reading your article in its entirety, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with its content.  I'd have to say that you're right on as usual with how the metagame will go, especially at Gencon.

The weaknesses you have mentioned with Sui and Sligh are ones that I have been keeping in mind for quite a while, and I'm actually in the middle of tuning a variant for each. I should be presenting at least one soon.

All in all, great article!  Keep up the excellent work!

Nice read, especially part 2 (the combo part!)

It will be very interesting to see how your mentioned convergence of several combo decks will take place. When I'm looking at the decklists I dont have the feeling that one of them is the present optimal combo build.
The several decks seem to have a unique strong element. Those pieces must be combined to get the optimal result. Maybe someone at Gencon likes combining
