T1 in Richmond, VA on Feb. 8th at T.A.G.

     Event: Vintage Tournament
     Entry Fee: 10$
     Location: Total Access Games Mechanicsville, VA (east side of Richmond, VA)
     Date: February 8th 1:00 PM    
     Details:  The prize will be a box of Legions.  This event will not be sanctioned.  It is their first type 1 tournament but they are not new to Sanctioned events.  They have hosted PTQs in the past and have regular events.


     I am hoping the turnout will be good.  A lot of regulars at this store play in extended, type 2, and block but play little type 1.  I am not planning the event but I know I will enjoy it as Bennie Smith, writer for WWW.StarcityGames.com and WWW.MagictheGathering.com will be running it up.

Is this going to be a regular, as in weekly/monthly, thing??  And do they have a website?

Also, is richmond comix continuing its type 1 events?

Richmond Comix has its monthly T1 sanctioned through June.  All but one of the events are scheduled on the last Saturday of the month, the one exception being to avoid a conflict with Memorial Day weekend.  Check www.richmondcomix.com for more details.

BTW, I encourage anybody in the Richmond/Fredericksburg area who can make it to definitely attend one of Richmond Comix's events.  Frank  runs a great tournament.

Exeter, you DID make it to the last one? Cool-- sorry I couldn't be there, but I was on a plane at the time. I'm missing this TAG tournament too unfortunately and possibly the next Comix one as well to attend more fencing tournaments. FYI, the Keeper player in the finals was SliverKing (my housemate) and Triple S was the TnT guy.

This is their first tournament for Type 1 players at this store.  I didn't ask them to have one, someone else did.  They just told me one day when I was there.  I told them I would post on The Mana Drain as I knew most of the Richmond Type 1 crowd check this side out.  I was just excited that another store in Richmond had decided to host a type 1 tournament, a rarity in Richmond.

As far as I know the owners of Richmond Comix and T.A.G. have NO affiliation with each other.

Like Exeter said the Richmond Comix web site has Type 1 scheduled until June and I don't think T.A.G. has a web site even though the owner said something to me a while ago about making one but I never heard anything more.

Weather it becomes a regular tournament is up to the people that show up.  TAG does hold Tournaments regularly and has enough table space for probaby 36 compeditors.  They offer other game support, holding 3 different game tournments this month.  

I wasn't at Richmond Comix this month as I went to pre-release.  I got an Acroma and quickly traded it for 2 rares I would actually play.  I did the same for the Darkness dude (6/6 trampler).  Got a mutilate for him.  I know I won out but he will probaby see alot more play having his little cleric buddies to get him into play.  I played him in draft and got him out twice.

Is the tourney swiss or single elimination?  If swiss do they cut to top four or top eight?  

And jamin could you post the address of the place so I can mapquest directions to it (I can't find a web site).

Also, did anyone do a tourney report on the last richmond comix type 1 event.  I ended up going to the prerelease as well

I meant to make it to that one, too.  But after dropping some friends off at the Legions prerelease, I almost totalled my car on the drive over.  The repairs are scheduled to be done before the next RC tournament, but I probably will have to miss the Feb 8 event.  I'll see everyone soon.

They had a turnout of 12 people... mostly TAG regulars. The field was fairly diverse however. 2 Keeper, TNT, squirrel-enchantress(bennie), sligh, zoo, 2 suicide,TheManShow (a blue/black workshop deck one of my roommates built... named because its all about the juggies), pros-bloom, parfait(radjammin), and WW
The top 4 were Keeper, Sligh, TheManShow, and Bennie's SquirrelEnchantress(although Bennie made it on tie-breaks over a suicide and a zoo).
Sligh edged Keeper with a Flaring Pain (and huge keeper play error), and TheManShow's nevinyrral's disks in the board were too much for the mono-g enchantress.  In the finals it went 1 and 1 and the ManShow took a 24/12 split with sligh... instead of chancing running into a double POP in game 3.

It was a good tournament, only lacking in the prize support.  Box of Legions is about as useful to a Type 1 player as a box of Kleenex.

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who attended the T1 at TAG and made it so much fun.  Everyone I've talked to about it seemed to have a really good time.  The owner Pat was pleased at the turnout and has decided to make this a semi-regular event.  While we probably won't have it every month, expect it more than 6 times a year, and we will make sure we don't clash with the Richmond Comix Type 1 dates so that Type 1 fans have more opportunities to play.

As far as prize support, I've talked with Pat and told him that Type 1 cards would make much better prize support than a booster box of the latest expansion.  Since we're just starting to have these tournaments, our supply of Type 1 cards is non-existant.  I've given him a big list of cards to try and pick up either from Ebay or from customers and, while we probably won't be giving out Moxen or a Black Lotus anytime soon, I do expect to give out more mid-price Type 1 power like Mana Drains, Moat, and The Abyss from here on out.  We'll
probably also offer booster boxes too as an alternative prize in case the winners already have the cards we're giving away as prizes.

Also, for those who are interested in keeping tabs on upcoming TAG tournaments and events, drop me an email and I'll put you on our mailing list.  A newsletter with events and sales specials comes out every week or so.

What a GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!

Not that I win all that much, but it would at least help find T1 cards locally, instead of always having to go on EBAY to buy from some stranger.

Also if any of the richmond crew is around I am looking at buying a Mox Ruby.

If I can get it from someone around here that I can get in person,  I will buy for $120.
