Dragon Survival - Barcelona, top 8
T. Micol

3 Mesmeric Fiend
1 Royal Assassin
1 Cabal Interrogator
1 Carrion Feeder
1 Tradewind Rider
1 Withered Wretch
1 Goblin Sharpshooter
1 Gorilla Shaman
1 Monk Realist
1 Xantid Swarm
1 Anger

4 Cabal Therapy
2 Academy Rector
1 Worldgorger Dragon
1 Ambassador Laquatus
1 Day of the Dragons
1 Dance of the Dead

4 Survival of the Fittest
1 Squee, Goblin Nabob
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Regrowth
1 Armageddon

Mana:
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Windswept Heath
3 Land Grant
3 Llanowar Elves
3 Quirion Elves
3 Bayou
2 Savannah
2 Taiga
1 Forest
1 Tropical Island
1 Wooded Foothills

Here we have a very interesting deck. It uses Academy Rector to get a Day of the Dragon or a Dance of the Dead for the kill. I have a few issues with ther build that might be attributed to my meat game concerns. This deck has a few gaping holes to my mind but still in certain metas the choices would make better sense perhaps. I think the search could be improved upon and a few cards added to shore up weaknesses.

This is the way I would build it ...

search - 6
4 Brainstorm
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Sylvan Library

Utility creatures - 8
1 Tradewind Rider
1 Xantid Swarm
1 Withered Wretch
1 Meddling Mage
1 Carrion Feeder
1 Genesis
1 Gigapede
1 Sylvan Safekeeper

Combo elements - 16
4 Survival of the Fittest
4 Cabal Therapy
3 Academy Rector
1 Day of the Dragons
1 Dance of the Dead
1 Ambassador Laquatus
1 Worldgorger Dragon
1 Squee, Goblin Nabob

utility - 6
3 StP
3 Duress

mana - 25
4 Wall of Roots
4 Birds of Paradise
4 EsG
4 Windswept Heath
3 Tropical Island
3 Bayou
2 Savannah
1 Forest

sb:
2 Stifle
2 Gilded Drake
2 Naturalize
3 Seal of Cleansing
1 Spellbane Centaur
1 Molder Slug
1 Meddling Mage
1 Devout Witness
1 Uktabi Orangutan
1 Monk Realist

I've substituted Llanower Elves and Quirion Elves for the better (to my mind) Wall of Roots. There are enough creay=tures still to make Day of the Dragon potent.

As much as i love Anger, I've ditched it as the kill is still WDG/Laquatious. Anger helps the Day of Dragon but really if it hits you already have the advantage.

I've added Brainstroms, Duress, and StPs main deck as these cards I'm sure will be useful in most match ups. I also added an extra Rector which is a key to the deck.

Now this is a very rough build. I have only tested it for a day but I must say the deck is a blast to play and not that easy to disrupt.

Of course, the main criticism is the speed at which the deck will win. does it have enough weapons to stave off a very quick combo deck - i.e., standard Dragon before it can do its damage?

Rector and Dragon with Survival

It seems like the deck could just fall apart at a moments notice. I've tried Survival based Dragon and it was alright, but this just seems like a clump of cards to me. Maybe i'm being a little harsh, but i'd be more tempted to see what Rector can do with Tendril's and whether or not a dedicated Survival/Dragon budget deck with ESG could work by itself.

Survival Dragon is not that bad. I would not play it right now (well, I might play it over u/b, but I prefer monoblack a ton currently), but if control were to shift back into favor I'd play it (note: for this to happen, dragon would have to be neutered in some way, making this sort of a paradox). Still, the deck you have going now looks very, very cool and good luck with it. PM me if you would like to test

Well you would more likely play Hermit Druid in a dedicated combo deck of this type. I have tested both Ghoul and Dragon with them. This is a different deck however. It has an assortment of tools to keep your opponent honest and that is its strength.

My initial impression of the Barcelona deck was just that until I began noticing just how synergistic the deck can be. It has answers and is very flexible in your choices for both the main deck and sideboard. My brief ( I admit it was not tested thoroughly) test results were quite surprising as the deck fared much better than I anticipated. I think it has promise. Remember Venguer Masque - even Carl said that it looked like a pile when he first put it together but it became a force to be reckoned with. The question is how to improve the basic framework.

I'm an idiot. I tweaked the main deck but am still working on the sideboard. Put Naturalize for now and consider them meta slots.

Actually, I expect to see UrPhid, Standstill and Keeper variants often in my meta along with the occasional Fish, GaT, and Hulk. But by far Dragon is the deck to play around here as we saw it first and have toyed with all its permutations. This seems another build to explore. I'm surprised you are not seeing control.
