in my current deck list for masknought I am using negators, but i am not happy with them. does anyone know any other creature that can be used to replace negator. i do not like shade as it consumes mana sources. here is my decklist for a better idea:

mana sources (25)
1x black lotus
1x mox jet
1x lotus petal
1x mana vault
1x sol ring
1x island
1x volrath's stronghold
2x bloodstained mire
2x polluted delta
2x bayou
2x underground sea
2x snow-covered swamp
2x swamp
2x gemstone mine
4x dark ritual

Combo (8):
4x phyrexian dreadnought
4x illusionary mask

search/broken (12):
1x ancestral recall
1x demonica tutor
1x yawgmoth's will
1x necropotence
4x tainted pact
4x brainstorm

creatures (4):
2x withered wretch
2x phyrexian negator (wanting to switch)

disruption (6):
4x duress
2x hymn to tourach

utiliy (5):
2x recoil
1x naturalize
2x lightning greaves

sideboard (15):
3x cotv
1x tormod's crypt
2x xantid swarm
2x phyrexian reclamation
1x hurkyl's recall
2x naturalize
1x recoil
3x contagion

that is my decklist. I want to switch negators out for perhaps a better creature. any off topic suggestions are welcome as well. thanks in advance

Quote
Quote Lord of Tresserhorn
Color= Multi  Type= Creature - Legend  Cost= 1UBR AL(R2)
Text (AL+errata): 10/4. ; When ~this~ comes into play, you lose 2 life and sacrifice two creatures, and an opponent draws two cards. ; {B}: Regenerate ~this~. [Oracle 1999/07/23]

Since this is a loss of life and not a payment, your life total can be reduced below zero by this. [Duelist Magazine #13, Page 27]
If he enters play, you do as much of the "when he enters play" text as possible. If you have less than 2 creatures in play, he must be one of the ones sacrificed. [Duelist Magazine #12, Page 32]
Note - Also see Legendary Permanents, Rule G12.8.

The beauty of negator over lord of tresserhorn is you can atually cast the damn thing.

If i was NEVER EVER EVER going to cast negator, i would run Tempting Wurm instead.

You could theoretically go for the green splash with deeds and tempting wurms, but even against control tempting wurms are not great to hardcast early since it will put them ahead in land drops and possibly give them thing you could have dealt with.

So basically i know of no real alternative to Negator, in the sense that negator is both cheap beats under mask and something you would readily hard cast. Tempting Wurm is the closes analog thereof.

The closest alternatives I can see (not equal, just closest to the power level of negator) that you could cast would be:

Spined Fluke
Color= Black  Type= Creature - Horror  Cost= 2B US(U)
Text (US): 5/1. ; When ~this~ comes into play, sacrifice a creature. ; {B}: Regenerate ~this~.

If there are no other creatures in play when this card comes into play, you must sacrifice this card. [Urza's FAQ 1998/10/05] See Rule 410.10a.
Note - Also see Comes Into Play Abilities, Rule 410.10a.

and

Juzam Djinn
Color= Black  Type= Creature - Djinn  Cost= 2BB AN(U2)
Text (AN+errata): 5/5. ; At the beginning of your upkeep, ~this~ deals 1 damage to you. [Oracle 1999/09/03]

Neither of them are great, but then, even with its drawback, Negator is Pretty damn good and there aren't really that many creatures that compare.

You could always try skittering horror, for the same casting cost as negator.

Skittering horror was the card that i used when i played tainted mask.  Have you tried spoils in there?

as of the moment i play in an aggro envirement so spoils wouldn't help that much... I might try the spined fluke. only problem with that is if i don't have a mask in play then i can't cast it. same goes for tempting wurm. thanks again though. any other comments are welcome.

Hyppies are good.  Skittering Skirges, too.
