Goblins. Stupid, stupid goblins. I hope you like em cause they're not going away anytime soon. While certainly a highly competetive deck before Darksteel, Skullclamp puts Goblin Bidding a big notch up in power level, and IMO makes it the format defining deck. This is the way I have it right now:
//NAME: The Dead Red Army 12 Mountain 5 Swamp 4 Bloodstained Mire 2 City of Brass 3 Patriarch's Bidding 4 Siege-Gang Commander 4 Goblin Warchief 4 Goblin Sharpshooter 4 Goblin Piledriver 2 Gempalm Incinerator 4 Sparksmith 4 Skirk Prospector 4 Goblin Sledder 4 Skullclamp SB: 4 Shatter SB: 4 Granite Shard SB: 3 Oversold Cemetery SB: 2 Gempalm Incinerator SB: 1 Patriarch's Bidding SB: 1 Swamp
First of all, this version runs 23 lands as opposed to the safer 24. It's not something I'm convinced is correct, but I'm testing it out anyway. Sparksmith is another card being tested, since it works more efficiently than an Incinerator with a Skullclamp out.
On playing the deck... if Skullclamp gets going, you probably win. A lot of the time the best play is to just equip your guys and look for a Bidding, making a lower curve of creatures ideal. The nice thing is, even without the Skullclamp it will get degenerate draws that no deck can really match. I don't think white based control has the tools to deal with a deck like this, unless they devote half their board to it and side in 4 Damping Matrix and 4 CoP: Red.
In my imaginary metagame, there is Goblin Bidding, Affinity, and some form of Zombies. This board is setup to destroy the mirror, leaving it somewhat lacking against Affinity. If there becomes a problem in games where Skullclamp will go off without fail, but the Bidding always gets countered, it's possible there should be 2-3 Cabal Interrogators in the board. I think Zombies is probably viable due to Skullclamp also being very good in that deck, along with the fact that they get to run Withered Wretch to destroy Goblins' plan. It doesn't have very impressive removal, however, so that may keep it from being Tier 1.
