I recently put together a Budget Landstill and have felt pretty naked. By that I mean I find the lack of card draw disturbing. I sat there facing a Scepter-Chant lock waiting for burn to deal the las 6. So I waited about 20 turns. I recently have added two DAs and have liked them so far but I cant help thinking there was a reason for not including more draw. Am I playing incorrectly or am I just used to draw reliant control? For reference my decklist which is not optimal.

Counters(14)
4 Counterspell
3 Force of Will
3 Misdirection
2 Stilfe
2 Mana Leak (will be 1 stilfe and 1 force when I get them)

Removal(12)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Fire/Ice
4 Nevinyrral's Disk

Draw(7)
4 Standstill
1 Fact or Fiction
2 Deep Analysis

Mana(27)
1 Lotus Petal
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
1 Volcanic Island
4 Mishra's Factory
4 Faerie Conclave
1 Wooded Foothills
4 Mountain
7 Island

The deck is hard to play without Drains.  They help power out the Disk, which is usually your answer to any permanent.

You might consider running Impulses. I do in my budget build and they find your standstills pretty quickly. Not technically draw, but definite filtering.

Any reason you didn't use one of those 14 counters instead of waiting it out?

I think his point was that he didn't have enough card draw to find the burn, as opposed to not being able to counter the chant.

Countering the Chant would have let him attack, though.

Landstill is so hard, if not impossible, to play without a full set of Mana Drain's and Force of Will's. For card draw you could either try Impulse or Brainstorm. And you could also use a Mystical Tutor to grab a Force of Will or another counter if you need it. But like I said; It's so hard to play without Drains.

Mana drain has to be played in landstill, you all most depend on it. On topic i feel that card drawing is not an issue so much in this deck. Landstill generates its advantage from disk and manlands instead of out drawing the opponent. Popping a disk can set a player back many turns and put u at a huge advantage where card drawing in other decks would gain the same type of advantage. Just my two cents hopefully we will see some drains on the next post.      -Buda

The situation as it was during the Chant-lock described above. My opponent was running a Urw Chronic build with 10-12 counters. He had the lock down and I was holding two stifles and some land and I knew he held at least one counter. I couldnt really attack because he had a Fire/Ice on a stick as well. He had killed all my factories and I had two Conclaves on the table. So basically I had 5-6 turns to live. Maybe this sort of situation is an anomaly but sometimes vs aggro or control I need to find something ASAP and this deck doesnt really let you do that. Would 2 Impulse suit my needs better than the DAs? Im beginning to think so.

I realize Drains are integral to success but Im pretty poor. I dont have a full set of Forces or Volcanics. I have been having a little trouble with casting Disks but that comes with the territory.
