This past Saturday (03-13-2004) Gems of La Mirada (LA, California, USA) hosted a 'Power' tourney. The tournament ran pretty smoothly, and 34 players showed up, including many TMD'ers from San Diego, LA/Orange County, and the Bay Area. The metagame was pretty mixed, with tons of different decks appearing. There was a really beat Beta Timetwister as the first place prize, but everyone in the Top 8 agreed to play for cash instead. The prize payout was as follows:
1st - $160
2nd - $80
3rd - $60
4th - $40
5th-8th - $30 each

After the first round of the top 8 concluded, the remaining combatants agreed to chop, and split the total sum of prizes 1st-4th, rather than playing it out. So they each walked away with $85 each, and 5th-8th each walked away with $30 each. A $460 collective pot is pretty good for $15 entry fees per person ($14 out of every $15 went into the prize pool; that is SOLID). The next tournament will probably have much better prize support, as in a Mox for first, and Bazaars and other goodies for the other places.

A mini-report and complete deck breakdown by archetype can be found here.

The Top 8 decklists can be found here. You know Chalice of the Void is good when White Weenie can abuse it. Check it out.

EDIT: PICTURES ARE UP, AND CAN BE FOUND HERE. Check them out!

And all those artifact decks and no Serenity in the side - go figure

Nothing will beat the maindeck tech of City in a Bottle.  I swear to god the room exploded when he played that in a Top4 match.

I can't wait for Dr Sylvan to see this *G*. Another WW in the T8, lol. (although this tournament didn't have his 50 player minimum)

If [card]Cemetery Gate[/card] shows up in a big Top 8, it'll be a superhuman showing of restraint for me to not alter the data to exclude it.

HOMELANDS ONLY HAS ONE PLAYABLE CARD, DAMMIT!
