I was looking at Magic-League.com when I saw this deck posted as a 3rd place finish in a type 1 tournament.  I was shocked, too, but it seems sounds in principal.

1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
3 Treetop Village
14 Forest
3 Gigapede
3 Jolraels Centaur
4 Fyndhorn Elves
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Creeping Mold
4 Null Rod
4 Ice Storm
4 Winters Grasp
4 Thermokarst
1 Black Lotus
4 Naturalize

SB:
4 Seeds of Innocence
4 Oxidize
3 Masticore
4 Root Maze

I proxied up the deck and the first conclusion I arrived at is...the deck ran run off little to no lands, two at the max can pretty much power out the entire deck, playing 1-2 elves helps a lot.  I find myself drawing into too many lands.

So what do you Type 1 experts here at TMD think?  Good?  No good?  Fluke it made it as high as it did?  Any hope to improving it?

My first instinct tells me that a deck whose plan is completely thwarted by Sacred Ground can't be that good.  Fortunately, Sacred Ground doesn't see that much play in T1.

Seems to me that this deck shouldn't perform that well, though.   It's not as explosive as other decks, and those explosive decks, like Slaver, should be able to stop this sort of crap long enough to set up for the win.  However, I haven't tested it, and it does seem quite interesting.

Once Crucible of Worlds comes out, this deck may become better, getting reusable strips and all.  And hey, in the end, who doesn't like recurring free LD that can't be countered?

There is a thread similar to this one in either the n00b or budget forum.  This one shows nothing new.

I posted on the other thread, saying that once the card is released, this kind of deck will HAVE to play 4 Living Wish and put Strip Mine in the board.

Crucible will make the deck better, and if you put in 4 Living Wish then Terravore wouldn't be a bad bullet in the sb.

the duelmen monoG deck worked IMO, by abusing LD and mana denial via null rods AND following up with chalices to stop anyone from breaking out of the lock
tangles helped immensely

Null Rod has become one of the most powerful budget cards available. Some decks -- such as OStompy and UG Madness -- seek to use Null Rod, in conjunction with Wastelands and Strip Mines, to slow the opponent long enough for their creatures to win the game.

This deck, from what I can see, seeks to use Null Rod as part of a greater mana denial strategy. It is intersting because it uses Null Rod in a control deck. I have not tested this deck, but, as for a land destruction deck in general, Gorilla Shaman is so strong that not taking advantage of it seems to be questionable.

Finally, the Centaur will have a difficult time explaining why it should be included in the deck over Troll.

The reason being it totally untargetable, you don't have to worry about 2 willbenders mis-ding 2 stings from the masticore. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

On a serious note gigafat is a cool card one of my fave but he really needs to become riverboas, they alone shore up the U based deck match which is what 90% of the meta.

There's a thread on this in budget, and since this is a budget deck discuss this deck there.
