As of late, the rise of teams in Type one has contributed to much of its growth. A bunch of people, collaberating, playtesting, and building is always a good combination, usually ending in mutual benefit for all members. The benefits of being on a team include consistant competent playtesting partners, more innovation or improvement on decks (due to the number of people working on the task, instead of the usual one- in additon to playtesting). Team-ing is usually a smooth operation where not only do people get better at the game, improving tourney preformences and winnings, but can gain friendships too.
Overall, being part of a team sounds like a great thing. And being parts of teams in the past- it definitely is. There really are no downsides to being in a team, because if things start to get heated between members, the remaining members will take care of it, or at worst case senario, the team disperses, with no harm done. This isn't likely to happen, but with Type One egos... who knows. Being in a team will teach you to leave your ego at the door.
Some prerequisites for forming a team are usually that they have to be in the same general area- for metagaming pourposes. It's tough to build a deck with your team while one member is used to a completely different set of decks than another. Being in the same physical area isn't needed- due to IRC, AIM and Apprentice, MWS. Testing and any other team duties can easily be done completely online if needed, which is a cause for the jump in numbers of teams lately.
Consequently, I belive being on a team is a great thing. I want to start a new team- and this is where I come first. I belive it could be beneficial for all involved, provided that good players join (I don't think that will be a problem here in Full-Users-Only land), and people are willing to get things done, while having a good time. If you are interested in joining a team, you can post here or PM me. Myself and a few others will decide who will be on (not to sound condescending, but there can only really be 5-10 people).
The team will not have a name untill we assemble all of the members, and looks to be primarily MWS testing and AIM collaberation, seeing how not many people will be able to congregate on a regular basis IRL. We are just trying to be practical.
Aaron Kerzner
EDIT: We will be letting everyone know within a week or so.

I'm interested.
I recently learned that I am being laid off from my job at the local cardshop, and this means a few things. First, I'm selling out (since I will no longer be playing locally) and will strictly be playing online (there are better people online anyway). Second, I have been employed for nigh on two years and am losing my job through no fault of my own, meaning I am eligible for unemployment for a minimum of 10 weeks, and I plan to take full advantage of that. I'm going to have a lot of time on my hands.
Let me know.
In any case, I'm looking for some kind of team to play/test online with.

You forgot one thing: You should team up with people with similar skill-level. Otherwise, it really doesn't work.

Hey,
You mentioned that teams should be in the same general area, but didn’t mention what area that was for you. If you are in the northeast I’d be interested in being on the team. I have a good internet connection at home and as long as I get more than 4 hours of sleep a night my play skills are solid. I think one of my better traits for being on a team is that I’m innovative and (more importantly) I don’t get emotionally attached to my innovations so if some whacky sideboard suggestion happens to suck I’m willing to ditch it and move on.

I'd definitely love to be on a team with fellow TMDer's...I'm already on a team in WI, and I have been on multiple teams for type 2. I agree 100% that teams are a great thing. There are 4-5 different perspectives as opposed to only yours.
Anyways, like I said, I'm defintely down to playtest. The Denver area has been pretty shitty, but lately there have been unlimited proxy tourneys, and thats proven itself to work out pretty well...

Well, being in the same area is good, but I won't deny someone because they don't live near. They just need to realize that we need to adjust to different metagames- although being near is a huge bonus, seeing meeting IRL is possible, and etc. Note: EDIT: We will be letting everyone know within a week or so

LoL A team would be awsome. Because of my location in the barren wasteland of Jersey, there are very few players here that want to playtest/work on decks. Being Molot went on break and my other friends are in summer classes, this forces me to become a one man testing team. This is a very good idea & Kerz give me a PM.

Some prerequisites for forming a team are usually that they have to be in the same general area- for metagaming pourposes. It's tough to build a deck with your team while one member is used to a completely different set of decks than another. I believe the other members will be able determine what is the best choice for each other's metagames, even if they live across country. So, living in the same area isn't nearly as critical as it seems to you. You are also used to the completely SAME set of decks if you test online. If you are testing online, then you should already be playing the most optimal decks available anyway.

I'd love to be in a team. The testing and instant messaging would be a problem for me, though, since the time zone difference is pretty huge, However, I'd enjoy the discussion on card choices and new deck ideas which is something I've been missing for a long time.
I guess some teams are able to cross the time zone boundaries (e.g. Paragons), especially since a lot of their discussions are likely via email instead of instant messaging. If it were possible to join a team of that ilk, I'd definitely sign up!

The team is created. We got nine people and I really don't want to add more. It was pretty much first-come-first-serve as long as the players were good- here is the roster:
TEAM ONE EIGHT SEVEN
Aaron “Kerz Kerzner James “st00mie Owens Shannon “Muzzono Ami O’Meara Steven “waSP Petersen Mark “MarkPharaoh Sadowski Mike “FireFall26 Small Bob “Clown of Tresserhorn Yu Will “walkingdude Murray Ashok “The M.E.T.H.O.D. Scott Limoges

Hey, at least we're not something like "Team Hadley." I think I'd prefer "0-2 drop" over that.
