As of late I have noticed that the main deck F/I has not been pulling it's weight. I have replaced this w/ Gorilla Shaman #2 and I love having two of these guys.

Vs. Slaver Mox Monkey is better at stopping the Welders.
Vs. Tog Mox Monkey helps w/ the LD plan, where F/I is basically dead.
Vs. Fish Mox Monkey doesn't help really and F/I has a chance to shine.
Vs. FCG F/I gets the nod over Mox Monkey.
I know I am missing major arch types here, I am pressed for time and have to run. Sorry this is rushed.

I still like the F/I in the sideboard but don't find myself using it much. What are others thoughts on the validity of F/I main deck?

Vs. Slaver, I would say they are both equally good.  Mox Monkey can chomp lots of 0, 1 cc artifacts, but fire/ice is good for actually killing welders.  (or tapping a workshop/large creature at an opportune time)

Overall, I think that fire/ice and mox monkey both belong maindeck in 4c control...

Another arguement for F/I is the Time Walk effects it can have... effectively buying you an extra turn by tapping down a critical permanent the opponent needs. My experience with F/I is more limited to it's uses in the Fish decks, but it's been invaluable stopping that Sundering Titan, or Exalted Angel for a turn allowing me to dig essentially 2 cards deeper into my deck to try and find an answer. (One from the Ice, One from the extra turn it bought me)

I don't think any metagame factor could make me want to go down to 1 Shaman, other than an uber-scrubbed out metagame. It's such a key component to mana denial, obviously.

However, I've been testing my 4-Color control build without Fire/Ice in the sideboard (in favor of one maindeck, in addition to 2 Shaman), and about half the times I wish I go to grab it and remember it's not there. While the list is just for testing purposes, F/I should definitely stay in the sideboard, even if the metagame in question warrants one maindeck.

Which is why the deck usually has 2 MD Gorilla Shamans AND a Fire/Ice.

It's great it tap your opponents 2ed blue mana source EOT to cut off their Mana Drain mana, usually allowing you to cast something cool like Mind Twist or Yawgmoth's Will.  Not to mention that your opponents Gorillia Shaman are just as bad for you as Welders.

Fire/Ice is best in a TnT/Madness metagame.  At the very worst it still pitches to FoW as I'm sure we all know.
