I reciently put together a thrull deck.  actualy i had most of the cards from back in the day and actualy used to play with this similar deck, mostly for fun.  Due to reasons of nostalgia i decided to put it back to gether and get the missing cards to round it out.  i should also note that i have all of the alternative art work for the trulls and hymns.

Example: armor thrull has 4 illustrations, basal has 4, necrite has 3, minstab has 3, and hymn has 4.

here is the trull deck that only uses fallen empires cards (except for basic land):

Creatures:
4 Thrull Champion
4 Necrite
4 Mindstab Thrull
4 Armor Thrull
4 Basal Thrull
2 Derelor
2 Ebon Preator

Enchantment:
4 Thrull Retainer
2 Breeding Pit
2 Torach's Gate

Sorcery:
2 Soul Exchange
4 Hymn to Tourach

Land:
4 Ebon Stronghold
18 Swamp

Total: 60

This deck is easy and cheap to build.  in order to get some of the alt art that i didnt have i was able to find them all in the 10 cent bin at a local card shop.  i even lucked out and found a signed Ron Spencer thrull retainer!   This deck is cool because of all the art work.  i think fallen empires, though has some of the worst cards has some of the cooles most unique art.

I agree, fallen empires is one of my favourite sets because the artwork is so well done. The black cards just have a very eerie feeling about them, and are much more flavourful than almost every other set.

Legends is very flavourful, and has great artwork, but I still like fallen empires more in this regard. But take a look at necrite (both versions) that is a SICK card from both a flavour and artwork perspective. The storyline is also more cohesive and impressive than legends. There is a sense of doom that is evident in almost all of the cards, where each empire is struggling to hold on but is being wiped out all the same. The grim nature of the set is very cool.

That sounds awesome!! Can anybody post the storyline behind Fallen Empires. I'd be interested to read that.

if you have a lot of fallen empire cards, just go though them and read the flavour text and you will start to see a story....  every color had a species.  with black it was thrulls, blue had Homids, green had Thallids, red was Goblins, and i cant remember white.  legends was cool too, but it was so random.  i still think that the art is better in fallen empires, plus it was the first set to have multiple illustrations for the same card.  earlier today i played my friend with the thrull deck.  its hillarius

I have a question:  speaking of art work, do you think that the art work as a whole has gone down in quality over the years??? i certainly do.  there is too much air brushing going on.  some of the pics just look to clean and computerised as well.  also wizards gives the artist guidelins for what they want the picture to be where as in the past the artist just had to go off the name of the card flavour text.  this resulted in some creative stuff.  my all time favourite pic is royal assassin. the 8th edition pic just plain sucks.

White was the Ications.
I used to have a book years ago that had 5 decks ( 1 for each color ) The decks were pretty well balanced amongst themselves and were alot of fun in multiplayer.

I'm gonna have to see if I can find that damn book!!

This deck could really use some Aeolipiles!

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

looks like a sweet fallen empire card, but it doesnt fit into the thrull theme.  all of these cards are thrull based.

in fact i just looked it up in google and got some info on Aeolipiles.  interesting stuff!!  this is what im talking about, cards dont have the flavor they used to.

impending doom? eerie atmosphere? weird cards with weirder abilities? look no further.. The Dark is the trademark of all that. not that Legends or FE are that way back, but i believe The Dark is tops where it comes to alternate flavor.

power to the homarids, camarids and viscerids!
