Frozen Spirit
{1}{U}
Creature -- Spirit

If a red source would deal damage to ~this~, it deals double that damage to ~this~ instead.
2/2

In keeping with the spirit of generating fresh, blue creatures for the TMD set, here's another creature that explores blue's relationship with the colour pie. I was thinking, if protection from * is an advantage, there ought to be a corresponding disadvantage. This isn't functionally the opposite of protection, although it does do a nice job of indicating that this creature has a weakness toward red -- and weak creatures are another thing that is appropriate for blue.

Before everybody goes clamoring for a cycle of these, or even a sole companion, keep in mind that 2/2's for {1}{U} don't appear all that frequently. Putting two of them in one set, even for the sake of parity, isn't really called for. Perhaps in TMD II, we can take a look at this and say, "Yeah, Blue really needs to get Turgid Spirit, to match Frozen Spirit from the first set." Or, as long as the mods promise not to put them both in the same set, we can just go ahead and create it now, for use later.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

That gives me an interesting idea. What if we played up blue's role as color-enabler? It's not green since green only really cares about mana diversity, while stuff like [card]Sisay's Ingenuity[/card] has always been blue. This could be a deep mine for blue cards.

Stuff like Sisay's Ingenuity, Crystal Spray, Mind Bend, etc... have always been blue, but then, I've never really seen the importance of them. Although the card I just suggested would make the colour of a source more significant, in general, I don't think there are enough cards out there that really care about the colour of things to make such cards generally useful.

I'm not starting the 24 hour clock, since I want more discussion about this card. In particular, I want some clarification and elaboration from you, Matt, concerning the blue colour-enabling nature of blue. I want to know just what I inspired and the sorts of ideas you have for blue.

Well, basically out of our whole master list there's less than ten blue cards I want to see show up in our first set. So many of the cards are just totally awful. I thought maybe making blue the "I care about cards' color" color could provide some good ideas.

Well, I've already posted a couple of cards that care about the colour of lands you and your opponents are playing and this cares if your opponent is playing red. I can continue on the with the theme. The Apocalypse Sanctuaries could be a good starting point.

This is actually a very nice card, and quite well balanced. Keep in mind that for the paris of cards you create, they don't have to necessarily be the same size or cost the same, unless there's a real benefit to the symmetry.
