I've been working on this for a while. While I haven't taken it to any real tournaments yet, I have thrown it at a pretty large playtest group, and it's starting to produce pleasing results.
UrDib, Pernicious Dude's Efreet deck
-- sources - 24 -- 4 Island 1 Mountain 4 Volcanic Island 2 Flooded Strand 2 Wooded Foothills 4 Mishra's Factory 1 Strip Mine 1 Wasteland 1 Library Of Alexandria 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mox Ruby 1 Sol Ring
-- beaters - 10 -- 3 Serendib Efreet 3 Frenetic Efreet 2 Viashino Heretic 2 Gorilla Shaman
-- no - 10 -- 4 Force Of Will 4 Mana Drain 1 Misdirection 1 Annul
-- answers - 10 -- 4 Fire/Ice 1 Echoing Truth 1 Vedalkan Shackles 2 Crucible Of Worlds 2 Sword Of Fire And Ice
-- draw - 6 -- 4 Brainstorm 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Time Walk
-- side - 15 -- 3 REB 1 BEB 2 Rack & Ruin 2 Maze Of Ith 2 Tormod's Crypt 1 Echoing Truth 1 Misdirection 1 Gilded Drake 1 Razormane Masticore 1 Engineered Explosives
In my meta, Crucibles are everywhere and half the decks seem to be running Tinker/Colossus. Many are the Workshops.
This deck is designed to be artifact hate while beating artifact hate. It looks like a pile of one-ofs, but a lot of them functionally overlap, which makes it difficult to sideboard an answer. It runs real counters and guys who don't care about Fire.
Frenetic Efreet has even odds of dodging any and all targetted or global removal, and nets the same 2 point life swing as Serendib. Also, if Frenetic is wearing the Sword when he phases out, it goes too. Phasing is pretty funny.
I think the mana base wants one more blue source, either by running a fifth Island over the Library, or by replacing one of the two red fetches with a third blue one.
I have trouble with Madness and with Forty 40s dropping turn one Juggernauts followed by Tangle Wire.
I love Engineered Explosives. At last U/r has an answer to Oath, Chains, Exploration/Fastbond, Survival, and any other cheap pesky enchantments that might wander by, without having to Disk the entire world away.
Anyway, I just wanted to show off my new toy and see what people thought.

Hey! I liked your serendib/deck. I have to admit that when i saw the prominence of GayFish, combo, and artifact decks coming around this summer i immediately thought back to an old anti-academy deck that Randy Buehler had built for an invitational and a similar deck that i had used at a GP mox-side tourney event. I have to admit the tech is quite old and the land count is way high, but i think it had some similar priniciples. I just thought i would send it along for reference. This deck was designed to beat necropotence decks and academy decks (which were all that survived during the late 90's
Enjoy! I will definitely try your version out, as the one i put together a few weeks ago ended up sucking.
Anyway, circa 1999:
4 Serendib Efreet 2 Ophidian 4 Gorilla Shaman 4 Force of Will 4 Mana Drain 4 Impulse 1 Time Walk 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Braingeyser 1 Stroke of Genius 4 Lightning Bolt 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Ruby 1 Black Lotus 1 Sol Ring
Lands 4 Wasteland 1 Strip Mine 4 Volcanic Island 2 City of Brass 1 Gemstone Mine 6 Island 4 Mishra's Factory 1 Library of Alexandria
Sideboard 3 Hydroblast 4 Pyroblast 1 Red Elemental Blast 2 Incinerate 1 Wheel of Fortune 1 Time Twister 1 Black Vise 2 Control Magic

That's pretty funny. Everything old is new again.

Frenetic Efreet is amusing, however i am not convinced that it's better than lavamancer. Have you tested lavamancer in it's place?
edit: also with mainboarded crusables, i would advice you to run more wastelands.

Tsabo's Web in conjunction with Sundering Titan is akin to ass-raping the Fish player with their own rolled-up Null Rods.

It's the Crucibles that allow me to run so few Wastelands. When the opponent has Crucibles or basics, as most of the decks in my meta do, Wastelands are not so useful.
Lavamancer dies to Deed, Keg, Disk, burn, Swords, etc., etc. Frenetic Efreet doesn't, half the time, and carries a Sword over their heads to win the game. He also pitches to Force and Misdirection.
I have not tested Lavamancer in this deck, though, no. I will grant you that Lavamancer is slightly better next to Crucible, because Wasteland doesn't turn him into Mons Goblin Wizard, but I've always like Razorfin Hunter better. If I ran Curiosity, both would be better in my deck. I'm taking a break from Fish at the moment.

Have you tried FTK? He seems like a good fit for this deck.

A similar deck had some good results in big italian tournaments, first place here: http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18619I tested it a little bit. Very strong. It focuses more on burn (4 Bolt, 2 Incinerate!) and runs 4Gorilla Shaman. It has no Drains, but 2 Stifle and 2 Misdirection. No Frenetics but 4 Serendibs. I also think 5 strips is a must, but this may be a metagame call.

Nonsense aside. I like your deck Pern. You always seem to have kooky ideas with Efreets. Have you tried out your old power conduit idea yet? But honestly. Madness might just be a better idea, Efreet Tech!
