Simple really. How long are you willing to drive to get to the tournament location?

With gen-con and all i figured it was a logical question. Smile

GenCon isn't a tourney. It's like, a vacation, a huge event, a place to meet tons of artists, and it also contains the type one WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. I would go to GenCon even if it meant being on a plane for 18 hours.

As far as the normal tourney thats like "1st prize lotus second prize mox third prize $50", thats 2-4 hours.

Waterbury, SCG P9, and the like, while not quite being gencon, are worth driving 8+ hours.

I've come to the conclusion that unless it's an event like Gencon, no tournament that is going to have above 100 poeple in it, is worth driving more than an hour.  I believe that everytime there is more than 100 people in a tournament that you can't lose more than 1 match to get into top 8.  If you are X-2 you won't make it, even X-1-1 is sometimes iffy.  Thus you have to play perfectly and magic is not a perfect game.

It isnt about a lotus for me, it's about meeting the people and having a wicked prize structute. I drove from Toronto, Ontario to Waterbury, CT to play in waterbury. That was because i wanted to meet TMDers, and attend a very good event with a great prize structure.

SCG, TMDChamps, are something i would go to because they are both pretty close. But Waterbury is just so damn far away, although i will do it again in the distant future. So i guess my answer would be about 6 hours max.

I refuse to travel more than 2 hours to attend anything with the possible exception of holidays (but in that case, I see to it I'm nicely drunk before I board the plane).

The reason I ask this question is that I live in Clearwater Florida. It takes 6 hours to get out of Florida much less anywhere NEAR a decent T1 tournament. I just wanted to see if I was crazy for not driving 15+ hours.
