Lotus Petal instead of Sol Ring for Mono-U

Has anyone tried this slight tweak, it seems that lotus petal would help you with that extra 2 mana on the first turn (aka mana drain/impulse).

1 lotus petal

= 7 cards which means you have a very good chance of drawing an extra mana source in ur opening hand.

I know that lotus petal lets you do first turn counterspell, but how is this better then being able to do a more consistent first turn phid, and having a reusable source of mana to power out cards like B2B/Phid etc. while having mana open (later in game) to protect the card with counter backup. running Lotus petal isnt also that crucial when you run mana leaks that work off any mox, and you got impulses early in game to also find answers that wouldnt benefit from a petal over a sol ring either.

Baically, Mono U is focused more toward lategame advantage, and early game one for one trades, and after the first turn, sol ring > petal, so the few times the lotus would be better doesn't make up for the fact that in the majority of cases the ring is strictly better.

Perhaps the question is not Sol Ring vs Petal, but land vs Petal. Sol Ring is too strong in this deck to omit.

I'd say no to the Petal personally. The deck's land count is low enough already.

espically since only 4-5 of the 12-13 counters have double blue (4 drain, maybe 1 counterspell).  Mana leak only needs 1 blue and by the time you get 5 mana to hardcast Force, lotus petal vs sol ring wouldn't matter.

Plus land, solring, turn 2 land, phid/B2B, turn 3 have 3 land and sol ring open seems much better than turn 1 petal, land, turn 2 land, phid/B2B, turn 3 have land open.

Actually once you hit 5 for Force Sol Ring is a lot better than Petal.

Another thing to note is that drawing lotus petal late game is just plain awful (not that drawing sol ring is much better), but sol ring is a nice 1 drop that can then be used to cast chalice for 1. Besides that sol ring lacks any type of real synergy with CoTV, but i think the explosiveness it gives is worth the inclussion by itself.
