Masticate

Instant
Until end of turn, whenever a creature is sent to the graveyard from play, distribute X +1/+1 counters one or more Beasts you control, where X is the creature's casting cost.

This thing can get nuts with Ravenous Baloth or whatever that Beast that lets you sac for life's name is.

CURRENT WORDING

Masticate

Instant
Until end of turn, whenever a creature is put into the graveyard from play, distribute X +1/+1 counters among any number of Beasts you control, where X is that creature's converted mana cost.

Cool. Maybe it should be based on their toughness, though? If something dies and a beast eats it, and then that beast dies and another beast eats it, I think it should get all the +1/+1 counters from both deaths.

Well, in all actuallity, I am kind of scared that this could be too strong.  What if I made it whenever a non beast creature went to the graveyard.

I don't think it's too strong.  I just think it's poorly templated. Smile

I'd fix it, but I'm not sure if this is only supposed to apply to your creatures or to everyones.

It should only apply to your beasts, but if it were too strong, all beasts would be ok.

How is it badly templated?

Then it should be something like:

"Until end of turn, whenever a creature you control is put into the graveyard from play, distribute X +1/+1 counters among any number of Beasts you control, where X is that creature's converted mana cost. "

I would like to say that this is really cool. I even like the name and flavor text. But is it too expensive? It's a sort-of 'combo' with Baloth but it's not really that good, and it ruined by a StP/Terror/etc. I think it could be 1G or GG.

I'd just like to add, without interrupting the clock, that the name kind of grew on me. When I first read it I was like 'worst name ever!' and couldn't help but think of all the adolescent jokes that would be made about it, but now I must say I kinda like it. I just sat down looking at it for a while, letting it go back and forth through my mind and saying it out loud a couple of times, and is really flavorful after all. Expecially in combination with the downright awsome flavor text. Mad props on filling a hole in our set with this cool card!

Wait... what is so adolesent about Masticate?  Isn't it fancy talk for "to eat"?

EDIT:  Would this be more flavorful if the creature that dies is removed from the game to signify that it has been eaten?

Here's a test.  Walk up to someone you know and tell them about how often you Masticate.

It doesn't need to be removed from the game.  Ravenous Baloth has plenty of flavor and basically implies the same thing.

Main Entry: mas·ti·cate
Pronunciation: 'mas-t&-"kAt
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): -cat·ed; -cat·ing
Etymology: Late Latin masticatus, past participle of masticare, from Greek mastichan to gnash the teeth; akin to Greek masasthai to chew --

Actually "to chew" is the better definition.   So it's nickname would be "Chewey"?

I know what it *means*. And trust me, it's nickname would not be chewie. But once more: mooy point. Cool name, cool card, cool flavor. Clock it.
