Type 4 draft of the Day--8 Oct 04

I had originally planned to do a "scenario" selection for 7 October but I'm home sick and generally feeling BLAH

Mirari, but if there were like 1-2 more people, Blatant Thievery in a second.

I guess Mirari, but honestly if I hadn't read jp's post I might have gone with Thievery or the dragon guy (I forgot it was only 4 people - these would be a lot stronger in a larger game) or even Door.

Thievery is still better than Mirari, despite only 4 players.  

Mirari is a card that looks amazing, given the format, but is actually subpar.  It makes your counterspells functionally into Last Words, so that's nice, but Thievery gets better as the power of the deck increases or the game in question drags on.  Thievery is much more of a tempo card.

Also, Mirari is very painful to draft early, because it will color all of your future picks and force you to overvalue many spells.  Granted, your deck should always have several spells that you'd like to Fork, but Mirari almost always ends up being too disruptive to your drafting and play for a relatively small effect.

i love these questions.

I'm going to go rogue.  I would take Door.

The contenders are Blatent Theivery and Door, imo.  I also like Interdict and Mirari, but those are picks are mid-level.  

Theivery's downside is that it pisses everyone off.  It's weaker than Memnarch and very likely to get countered.

Instead of trying to counter Door, people will try to position themselves into the person who won't get doored.  Taking door alleviates any fear that you  might get Doored too.  All those reasons suggest that Door is the pick.

I agree with Smmenen on this, the political nature of Door is just huge, and its combo potential with the White Bringer is very nice as well (but puts a huge bullseye on your chest).  If the pod size were to be 6 instead of 4 I believe I would opt for Thievery instead since the impact is more immediate.  But then the entire table focuses on you as a threat...the Door means everyone wants to be on your side...but beware the Willbender.

I would pick Mirari because I absolutely love that card (and my decks generally turn out to be cramped with forkable spells anyway). I'll concede that Door is probably the best pick at this point though.
