No morning rituals or fun stories, Ultima and I drove up from Jersey with him going 100 MPH.
I haven’t written tournament reports in a while because I was playing Meandeck Titan and the games always ran like Rich’s reports so I didn’t think it was nessessary to write one if nothing interesting really happened.
After I won that Ruby at Stok’s event and the Time Twister at Waterbury, I’m was really looking forward to writing a report. Since I played Stax at Endicott I feel I should write one. I’m not great with the grammar so bear with me.
Before anything, here is the list. Its almost exact to Kevin Cron’s list from Gencon.
I think I cut Hurkyl’s Recall from the MD for a vampiric tutor, and my board is crazy. Since I’m in my dorm now and nowhere near my cards, this list is off the top of my head.
List 16 Lockdown 4 Smokestack 4 Tangle Wire 4 Trinisphere 4 Crucible of Worlds
Critters 6 4 Goblin Welder 2 Sundering Titan
Draw 5 3 Meditate 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Memory Jar
Tutors and B0rk3n 4 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Balance 1 Tinker
Mana 29 8 SolomoxenCrypt 1 Mana Vault 1 Lotus Petal 1 Darksteel Ingot 1 Grim Monolith 4 Mishra’s Workshop 4 Wasteland 4 Gemstone Mine 3 City of Brass 1 Strip Mine 1 Tolarian Academy
SB 3 Gorilla Shaman 3 Red Elemental Blast 2 Triskellion 2 Tsabo's Web 1 Rack and Ruin 1 Hurkyl's Recall 1 Duplicant 1 Platinum Angel 1 Darksteel Collassus Round1 Andolorsi on TMD w/ GAT
Game One: He gets a very early Dryad, it starts hacking away at me pretty badly until my disruption with wastelands finally sets in my and my lock parts finally start moving efficiently. He scoops when I’m at like 3 with no perms in play.
Game Two: Early dryad and energy flux. I try to win somehow but he still has his countermagic. I lose.
Game Three: He plays an early energy flux and eventually drops a dryad. I stall turns anyway I can by blocking with welders, casting one time use tangle wires, anything. I build up enough mana and wasteland my own land and cast balance. It killed the dryad. he went down to 1 land, and 1 card. We get into a TD war which he wins when he casts another dryad. I finally draw the academy. Dump my hand with academy when I’m at like 10 and drop enough mana to pay for flux while increasing the counters on my smokestack each turn. Im at like 5 he has 3 permanents in play. I’ve been staying alive with welder/academy trix playing around the flux, this turn I top deck tinker tinker out a titan to nuke his 1 land. His turn follows he sacs his only 2 other perms, titan wins out.
1-0
Round2 Ostompy
Game One: I stop the early aggro rush with tanglewires and mana denial. Lockdown sets in and its over.
Game Two: The aggro rush was too strong and I couldn’t stabilize enough due to his removal of oxidizes and null rod.
Game Three: I drop enough removal and build the smokestack to 2 counters. I am at a very low life total due to a mongrel and arrogant beating. I drop wire and stack, tutor for the 1 meditate (I boarded out 2 other ones), droped welder and cast meditate. He was finished
2-0
Round3 FCG
Game One: First turn sphere, turn 2 tinker, GG
Game Two: He really doesn’t have any answers to me besides artifact mutation. I keep him off green with wastelands, and just drop a lock on him and he loses.
3-0
Round4 Kerz w/3c Tog
Game One: This was me being a lucksack at my finest. I get a crazy good draw and drop some stuff on him, he had an ancestral he couldn’t cast and I won.
Game Two: He gets a lot of mana, just now the right colors. We fight over stuff I eventually get the lock going and titan comes out. He was holding crazy green I lose cards.
4-0
Round5 U/R Trinistax
Game One: He goes workshop crucible. I drop workshop crucible. He wastelands mine. I replay it and drop Trinisphere because he hadn’t played any perms. I had a couple of moxen drew welder went ingot welder. He couldn’t play anything that could stop a active welder. Lock Settled.
Game Two: He went workshop, Sol Ring, Crucible Burn. I took a giant risk, because I sensed that he was relying on his crucible to keep his shop alive. I wasteland his workshop, drop my lotus and cast hurkyl’s recall. He groans and I caught him with his pants down. I drop my workshop and start going crazy. He cracks a lotus and plays 2 welders, and eventually gets a couple of lands and artifacts in play. I cast balance and rack and ruin his stuff and its over.
5-0
Round6 ID
Round7 ID
TOP 8 against 5/3
Game One: He plays a turn 1 juggernaut, I play a crucible and welder, he plays a second juggy, and fires my welder. I get out a wire and another welder. He draws trike. Groan. I take way too much damage and I can’t stabilize
Game Two: This game was just as fast. He plays two juggernauts over the course of his first and second turns. Im taking a beating but I stabilize at 4, he has 2 juggernauts in play. I tinker for my Duplicant taking one hoping to trade the other. He kills my welder which isn’t active and draws his Duplicant for the win.
Since Ultima and I had a long drive back, I just agreed to go and take the 8th pick. Everyone voted that It be a pearl and I sold it back to Bryce. Props: Kevin Cron- for inspiring me to play this deck. Its probably going to be my deck of choice from now one because I just like how it plays and I have a lot of fun with it, besides the fact that its insanely good.
Team Meandeck- I’ve Won three pieces of power and legends packs in the last month because of your insane deckbuilding skills.
The people of the Jersey crew who showed up
Bryce (Klown) for running an insane tournament. I know it didn’t turn out as you expected but I sure as hell.
Ray Robillard- ONE DAY I WILL BEAT YOU IN SOME KIND OF GAME.
Subway
TEAM 187 for taking TWO SPOTS in the T8.
Slops- I have none. It’s all good.
Eastman and Kerz: HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL OOOOOOOOOOO!
PS: If anything in my report sounds sketchy, I have a bad memory and didn't take notes, so please ignore any mistakes.
