First off, I would like to thank everybody who came to this event and helped it run so smoothly. There were no reports of shady goings-on this year which I'm very pleased with. I really hope that everyone had a great time this weekend. I'd especially like to thank the following people: Kowal for co-TOing. Pernicious Dude for judging and setting up the sound system. Liz (sweetcatastrophe), Ross (rocknrossi) and our numerous Binghamton crew members not here on TMD for helping with the refreshments, deck-checking and sign-holding and everything else they did to make the event awesome all around. Ray Robillard for giving me numerous pointers on everything, providing us all with Waterbury which I blatantly tried to duplicate and just generally being a great guy (not to say that everyone else on this list isn't). Jacob Orlove for running some savage Trivia. Phil Marfuta for giving me some serious pep talking when it really sunk in that there were only 94 people in attendance. Jeff Anand, Josh O. and Carl Winter for tossing me some stuff to help with the 9th-32nd place prizes. Everyone who had the cajones to play in the Highlander tournament on Day 2. Ashok Chitturi for letting me buy my Pearl back from him for a little less than it was worth. With his help, I was able to save my power pieces that have sentimental value to me. Secondly, I'd like to point and laugh at everyone who could have attended this event, but decided to go to a much lesser one for a very similar price and who Top Eighted but didn't take home any power. Sorry folks, the mana gods were with you on Saturday, but you chose to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thirdly, I'd like to extend a very sincere and heartfelt "fuck you" to the organizer of the Lenox Mox Pearl tournament. You chose to run a clashing tournament for less on the same day. That's fine, you're an imbecile; the world is full of those. What I really don't appreciate though, is you sending somebody to distribute flyers at the REAL event without my permission, hoping to get in under my radar. We all know that you don't have the balls to run your own big tournament, but PLEASE don't try to capitalize on the efforts of the people who do. Don't worry though, you failed miserably. The moment I saw them, they promptly found a home face-down in the dumpster. Nobody took any of your little pink papers. Except me of course...I kept one. You may or may not be getting it back with a little "surprise" on it. I've wiped my ass with far more important and coarse things, yours won't bother me in the least. Oops. I spoiled the surprise... And now I give you the Top 8 decklists for TheManaDrain Championship 2004. Champion - Jim Demarsico

There were 13 Highlanders in total, slightly less than I had anticipated, but all in all, a good time was had. Congratulations to Simon Cooper, your new Highlander World Champion. He and Phil Marfuta played a very intense and absolutely nervewracking match in the finals. If anybody wants to be a bastard and ask me to put up the other nine Highlander lists, just say so.

Surprisingly, I wasn't surprised to see a Brass Man in Brass Man's deck. He actually has a decent use too. Can anybody say "shuts down Joblin Lackey"?

First and foremost...I wish to thank Klown for an amazing time. There were all sorts of fun activities going on throughout the weekend. Highlander, Magic Trivia, a Poker Tourney, TONS of Type 4 and Mental Magic, a feature match table, a Denny's run, 3 vendors, hacky sack, awesome opponents, and a greater sense of jovial merriment and type 1 community, then I have ever felt at a type 1 tournament(even Waterbury)
To anyone who could have made it out and chose not to...shame on you. You have no idea what you missed.
As for the prizes ON SATURDAY, I give MADDDD props to Klown for sticking with the established prize structutre. It sucks ass losing alot of money running tournaments(trust me, I've been there), especially when making money is not the main goal, and it is easy to try to fix things by pulling the plug on prize support. This, however, is totally the wrong play if you plan on holding more events. Consider others who have promised certain prizes and lowered them after the fact. Great Barrington did so and the next event got 13 people.
Klown chose not to do this, got pumped again by Phil, and delivered one amazingly solid weekend. I know I will be back if another of these events is held, and based on Bryce's descion to not lower the prize support, I heard others mention they would also return. I think, Bryce just needs a little time to establish his tournaments to get them to the point where he could break even/make a profit while giving away a full power set.
Once again, Bryce...thanks...and to all the people who showed up and with whom I had a great time (Dave, Jim, Bryce, Carl, Jacob, Liz, Kerz, Scott, Jeff, Josh, Eli, Ed, Simon, Harriet, Phil, Kowal, Dan, Andy P, Ashok, John, just to name a few...) you rock!

I have to agree completely with this post, even though it makes no mention of me. This mini-convention (so much more than just a tournament) was amazing, and well worth the infinite driving time from boston.

*applause* I truly appreciate the gesture, Bryce. It's a shame a lot of us Canadians couldn't come to this event, due to multiple factors, not limited to work, money, time and the fact that our main driver would have been arrested should he step in New York. This event really should have had at least 15-20 more people. At least. But that's how it goes... I really hope there will be a next one, and that more (and even some more of us) will show up.

I'll also echo the mad props to Bryce, though I'll also extend those to Josh Osche. They both put in A LOT of work to put this on, and they did an exceptional job. I couldn't have asked for more, and on the first attempt at an event like this no less. The tourney hall was a tad crowded(4 foot tables with 2 people to them leading to people sitting at the end with the legs), but much more roomy than I had expected with a lot of open space and easy access to the parking lot outside which provided an easy outlet for smoking, hacky sack, slap-ass, etc.
The Binghamton kids: Ross, Jesse Gwyn, Eli Schism, Liz, Tyrone and more than likely a few others whom I didn't see all did an AWESOME job for no compensation. You guys are awesome and I've already told you so, but still. Yeah. Monkeys.
Anyways. This event, as Jacob said, was very much like a convention. Aaron Kerzner commented midway through Saturday that it reminded him of Origins which was just a chill place to hang out with a little Magic going on. I'd go into this more, but then you guys won't have anything to read later...(foreshadowing rules!).
Great job guys.

@ Carl:
1. Best.House.Evar. The CCW Manor provided much clutch sleeping quarters, even though I slept in a chair.
@ Other people:
2. Going to the CCW Manor rocks ever harder because I saw the painting IRL. Boners.
3. Yes, this tourney was absurdly fun. At 4-2-1, I missed t8 by losing the last round, but I still had an awesome time.
4. I was introduced to the game of slap-ass at this tourney by the Binghamton dude(tte)s. It fights soooooo good. I've never had so much hand to ass contact in one day in my life. <3 you guys.

Nope. It's a game where you try to slap as much ass as possible. It's fun in a heterosexual kinda way.

Props to Bryce for holding his end of the bargain, despite the circumstances. I apologize for missing this one, but I'm in school and I couldn't afford the trip or the 2 days off. However, if the same TOs decide to try their luck again, they will definitely have my support.

This event really should have had at least 15-20 more people. At least. But that's how it goes... I really hope there will be a next one, and that more (and even some more of us) will show up. I realize people are probably going to hate me for saying this, but I gotta say something Why should there have been more people? Why do you guys keep saying "people who didn't go suck" ?? Do you guys (Binghampton people) remember the last tournament you ran?? 1- Getting food at the place sucked 2- There was NO BATHROOM AT THE VENUE 3- Nobody was allowed to watch the top four or the finals 4- Cursing was NOT ALLOWED. How can anyone ever hold any sort of competetive event ever and not allow swearing. "If I hear you swearing, you'll get kicked out." Yeah- fuck that rule 5- And let's not forget the collusion at your first tournament, and the fact that the wrong number of rounds was played So again, I'm not trying to make fun of you guys, or put you down. I'm just pointing out the obvious facts. It shouldn't have taken a genius to figure out that you weren't going to get the 150+ turnout you were hoping for. And when I hear people complaining, or saying "people that could have gone but didn't suck" or anything along those lines, I can't help but feel that people aren't looking at the obvious facts here. ***One last note: I do want to add that I have a LOT of respect for Bryce and whoever else took the hit when the turnout didn't cover the advertised prize structure. That takes a lot of class to do that- and I commend you for that. Based on this, and the stories people are telling, I think (and hope) you will do just fine next time

If not... 1- Getting food at the place sucked Hey, believe me, very few venues around here have good food services, unless you are in a mall... Dueling Grounds is just about the only one with a bar, too. And a Piano... 2- There was NO BATHROOM AT THE VENUE That's a bit unusual... wtf? 3- Nobody was allowed to watch the top four or the finals What? Seriously? 4- Cursing was NOT ALLOWED. How can anyone ever hold any sort of competetive event ever and not allow swearing. "If I hear you swearing, you'll get kicked out." Yeah- fuck that rule At a magic game? Holy crap, if Wu and I go, we won't make it past the first round... 5- And let's not forget the collusion at your first tournament, and the fact that the wrong number of rounds was played Was that Bryce's tourney? I thought it was Andystok's. Based on this, and the stories people are telling, I think (and hope) you will do just fine next time Excellent...

Based on this, and the stories people are telling, I think (and hope) you will do just fine next time I agree with Hulk's assesment. I hate to say it that the above thoughts ran through my head and the fact that I had to sing the next morning at 8:30am and had a rehearsal the next day deterred me from driving that far. (Also my belief that 100+ people tournys suck if you have to drive more than 1 hour.) It would have been cool to see this event more in the "summertime" that in September when everything starts again. Still props on sticking to the prize structure. Hopefully that will bring more people out next time. -Keith

5- And let's not forget the collusion at your first tournament, and the fact that the wrong number of rounds was played The first four were totally rectified by the fact that this was a different venue.Klown had no control at the store. This venue was awesome. Cheap hotel rooms onsite, lots of play area, large bathroom, pizza in the space, a restaurant in the building and several up the street and you could walk 50 feet and buy a $1.50 pint of beer without going outdoors. I saw no sign of your issue 5 at this tournament. It was very well run. As others have said, mad props for honoring the promised prize support. Highlander is all that. I'm totally looking forward to the next one.

I would like to point and laugh at anyone who didn't make $40.00 that day.

I don't get it. Are you saying that the Lenox TO made $40 off his tournament entry fees? Or that everyone who made Top 8 took home equivalent of $60 worth of prizes? And if it was profitable for him in the least, why would he raise the entry fee even more for next time?

It seemed as though that comment was a direct shot at me. I did go to Lenox, I did make top 8, and I didn't win power.
Assuming that it was a direct shot; I fired back with that statement, which meant that I got a prize worth roughly 60 bucks, making a profit.
In retrospect; there were some anger issues earlier this week that I should have dealt with differently, and I apologize for the shot. Furthermore, I am sure your event was excellent, and I am sorry that I couldn't attend.

It seemed as though that comment was a direct shot at me. To clarify, the comment WAS a taunt directed at everyone who made Top 8 in Lenox who could've come here. Fact is, if you had been in Endicott, you probably would've made Top 8 and won yourself a Mox or more. Try to rationalize it all you want; a Mox is worth a little more than forty bux. Just figured I'd rub some noses in it.

Honestly, how much do you think the 3 hour additional driving distance from most locations make in the attendance? Do you think there could have been more of a push? Was this too close to Waterbury?
