Anybody out there?

No, but I will definitely travel out to events in that general direction.

Awesome.  This should be the case.

I'm going to talk to a couple store owners this weekend hopefully, and I'll report back here with the plan.

Western MA representing, I haven't played in an eternity though.

Well, you've come to the right format!  Wink

So I spoke with Seth from X9 and he said that weekdays were pretty wide open.  Let's get some votes on which day.

I can't do Thursdays.

I don't think I can make it out to western MA on weekdays.  My woman has the car until about 6:30-7:00 every evening.  Unless you're starting at 8pm (which is retarded for everybody else), I probably can't make it.  I'll be there for anything on a weekend, though!  Mox tournaments, please!

Yeah I think the main goal should be consistent smaller tournaments which will hopefully build interest for larger mox events

I too would be very interested in Mox events or tournaments of that size, but it's unlikely I could make the trip for a smaller store credit event and impossible for me to do on a weekday.

I've been pondering finally running another event at the end of the summer or beginning of the fall in Hadley. What days work best for you folks? Sundays are good for me but if we can get a big enough crew together i'm fine running one on a Saturday too. Prizes could be a Library and a new Jace or something or would it take something like a Mox to get the old crew out?

As long as I'm not booked, you know I'll be there.  We should meet up this week and make a plan, both for weekly and larger tournaments.

I'm very glad to hear that there's another mdenny tournament in the works.  The last one was a very gracious gesture to the community.  To answer the questions above--

1.  It wouldn't make much of a difference to me to play for a Mox versus a Library + Jace or whatever else, as long as the entrance fee was in proportion to whatever was being offered.  I don't know how others feel about this; it's possible having a recognizable attention-grabber like a Mox might be more interesting to other people.**  But there hasn't been a lot of Vintage going on here lately, so I don't know how picky people will be.

2.  It's all the same to me whether the event happens in late summer or early Fall, except that, all else being equal, having to wait a shorter time to play in a good tournament is always preferable.  I'll add that, as far as other players go, having the event in the summer might fit into the academic calendar for students a bit better.

3.  I strongly suggest having the tournament on a Saturday if at all possible.  As someone planning on coming from Eastern Mass. and facing a 2+ hour ride back home, that's a lot easier to manage knowing that I don't have to get up for work the following morning.  I also think that most of the Vintage community, being used to having Saturdays as the norm for tournament dates, will be able to schedule attending a Saturday tournament more easily than a Sunday one.

** Speaking of which, and on a totally separate, partially thread-hijacking note, how do people feel about playing for a 1st place prize of 3x Underground Sea?  As many of you have heard, I've been working to put together a series of tournaments for a while now, but one of the big obstacles has been finding power I can buy at a price that will let me offer lower entrance fees.  I have a lot of extra dual lands in my collection that I could offer instead of a Mox, since I wouldn't need to worry about making further cash investment in a prize offering, but I'm worried that duals instead of a Mox might turn some Vintage players off.

This would be enough to make people the Dirty Harry's and the Doc Holiday's of magic to put on their boots and card holsters. In my opinion, if you offer duals, the prize break down gets easier, as it allows for more than the top 2 to get prizes.  It is in my experience, in our neck of the woods, er I mean dessert, that offering a Mox or something leads to winner take all scenarios or just the top 2 or 3 getting prizing. Then again, this is generally due to low attendance and a general lack of the format in our state.

Matt, I agree with DA's sentiments about the tourney.

As for this:

It makes no difference to me.  I would be perfectly happy with U-Seas.

DO IT.  DO IT NOW.

Honestly though, at this point, I think those of us left in New England just want events to play in.  Flashy prizes really don't (or at least shouldn't) matter anymore.  I'll play for 4 Scrublands for 1st, so long as I actually have the opportunity to play.

Also, I'm putting August 29th Hadley event in my calendar. . . just in case.

:/ That's the day before my final exam, and also the day before our first day back to school (I'm a teacher).

Have you talked to the guy over at Off the Wall at all?  I'm sure his availability must be pretty open, and he has quite a bit of space.

I would say considering the rising price of duals because of legacy that offering something like seas in the place of a mox would be perfectly acceptable for most people. Especially when you consider the fact that people don't really need moxes but if someone wanted to play legacy they would actually need the seas.

I think dual lands should be the new standard for vintage tournaments, and it could generate more attendance.  Ever since proxies became the norm, people really don't give 2 shits about owning power, but at least dual lands, especially underground seas, could technically be considered more valuable then a mox.

This is true. $500 worth of duals for first (say 4xRevised Sea and any 2 other U revised duals or 3x Tundra 3x Tropical etc...) is a hugely attractive prize that would get tons of folks out in my area. Of course I'm in southern ontario so it's a slightly different area, but I think wanting to play formats like Legacy and even wanting a complete set for EDH type purposes gets folks out for events big time.

I'd love to see a tournament with 1xeach revised dual as the top prize. That's not too far noth of the price of a mox.
