Winter Orb

Heya!

First post in a long time! Only been reading stuff  :lol:

Well.
I was wondering if the old trick with Winter Orb still worked.
End of opponents turn, tap winter orb with Icy Manipulator or a similar card.

Does this result in me getting to untap all of my lands?

Does this rule go for all continious artifacts?

There used to be a rule that all artifacts would "turn off" when tapped.  This is no longer the case.

However, some artifacts specifically still "turn off" when tapped.  You can tell which ones do by reading them (sometimes you have to go to the Oracle for the correct text).

For example:

Winter Orb

Artifact    
As long as Winter Orb is untapped, players can't untap more than one land during their untap steps.  

Winter Orb does nothing while tapped.  So, if you tap it on your opponent's end of turn step, all of your lands will be untapped on your next untap step.

This isn't a specific rules question per se, but I am curious about the change in the abilities on WO and I am too lazy to dig through the intarweb to find the answer.

Was there a time in between the removal of the general tapping-turns-it-off rule and the specific errata putting that text back on WO? Because WO fucking rules if you take off that text. Anyway, if anyone knows the answer to this I would just like to know.

When they switched to 6th ed rules, they simultaneously changed Winter Orb and a ton of other cards.
