I don't think anyone ever said the best candidate wins the election. If US politics has proven anything, it's exactly that

Sorry, just a quick note to remind all of the Americans to go out and VOTE tomorrow. I'd like to add something to that. IF YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO VOTE AND LIVE IN THE USA GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASSES AND FUCKING VOTE TOMORROW!!!!!! Why does a Dutchie get so worked up about this, you might wonder? Well, as you may or may not have noticed, your country is the single most powerful and influential nation in the world. Everything you do influences everything we do. Since, however, I am obviously not in a position to vote myself, I will do the only thing I can do to influence this election, and that is to urge all of you to excersize your godgiven democratic right and duty. I personally don't give a rat's ass what you vote, as long as you do it. The world will have to accept the outcome whatever it may be, but lemme tell you, you'll find us a LOT more cooperative if the american people speak out as one man and choose their leader with passion (whoever he may be).

h8 h8 h8 h8 h8 electoral college Aw, hell, let's just take off, nuke the entire site from orbit*, and start from scratch. There's too many structural things wrong to fix through reform. * : Note to Big Brother: Watch Aliens before you arrest me.

The way that bush has "restructured" (shit on and destroyed) the government this last term has definitely pushed me a lot closer to that viewpoint, Phil. I try to give it a chance, honestly, but I don't think I really believe in democracy.
And also, at the end of Resurrection when the ship vaporizes Africa...that made no sense. It would have had a much different effect. Who is going to put the sci back in sci-fi?

but I don't think I really believe in democracy. The wau your country goes about it, I don't blame you. Still, all you can do is vote. At least if you do that and it's still fucked up, you;ll know it's not YOUR fault.

I "voted" for Kerry, but we will see if I really voted or not. It doesn't make a big difference because NC is a red red state. They don't have to erase my vote to take my state.

I'm pretty sure Kerry's got this. The number of new voters this year is in the multi-millions - most of those are college students who are pissed off and want to live in a half decent non-facist country. Oops, I let it slip. Heh. But whatever, VOTE. Note: Canada, France and 8 other nations were polled to see who supported whom for US President: Of the ten, Iraq and Isreal were the only ones who supported Bush. I love you Dutchies and Frenchies to bits and pieces. The good kind. Yeah, it's been said before, but GO OUT AND VOTE IF YOU CAN. If you notice something sketchy going on at your polling place, report it asap.

I don't believe in democracy because only 10% of the voters have any idea what they're voting for (and that figure is me as a PoliSci major relaying the canonical knowledge of the field). The other 90% go by "heuristics" (shortcuts) like whether they think one of the candidates has eyes that look untrustworthy, or their general concept of what a Party stands for. This latter has some pertinence, but usually it means stereotyping Democrats as LBJ and Republicans as Reagan---both of which are maybe half right on average. Given the fact that even people who really know what's happening have very little understanding of the details of what's done with their money throughout the federal government, I have zero faith in the masses to vote competently.
The only problem is that oligarchy, historically, also sucks. So maybe species-wide sterilization is the answer.

This thread is also getting too political. Nonpartisan comments to encourage voting are fine (and everyone really should vote), but people are going beyond that, which is not allowed on this site. Closed.
