Obviously the name needs changing. Incredibly, I was a little hung over when I thought of this (which is why this will probably piss off the rules people):

Hangover
2U
Enchantment
Fading 4
Each player skips his or her untap step. During each player's upkeep, that player untaps a number of permanents equal to the number of fade counters on ~this~.

Not sure if there's an "untap phase" any more, so I made it "untap step". Is that worded right? It's quite a nice take on a reverse Tangle Wire - as such, maybe make it an artifact?

Current Wording:

Hangover
2U
Enchantment
Fading 4

The idea is interesting, but I don't like how, because of Fading, the effect becomes more and more strangling before it suddenly goes away. I can't think of a good way to word it right now, but if instead of being able to untap 4, 3, 2, 1 permanents before the enchantment goes away, if it allowed you to untap 1, 2, 3, 4 permanents before the enchantment goes away, that would seem to make more sense. In that regard, the penalty starts of strict, but becomes looser and looser until it disappears altogether.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

Doesn't that make it a LOT like tangle wire?

Huh. So it does. I knew I'd seen something like this before. I'm not sure I'm really going to have anything else that's relevant to add to this card, then, since I don't particularly like it the way it is, but the card I thought it should be already exists.

It's a reverse tangle wire... kinda cool actually...

I would say I like it.

Don't we already have a fading card that messes with untaps?

It's deliberately meant to get more and more severe - my experience of hangovers is that you wake up, feel fine for half an hour, get gradually worse during the day, get some sleep, and are absolutely fine the next day. Very Happy

@Jacob: I looked at the Master List - no sign of anything there. Unless you're getting at Tangle Wire, on which I think this is a nice twist. Still, if there's another mechanic that would make this work, then that would probably be better.

My main fear with this card is that it'll be totally unplayable. Tangle Wire is used to apply early pressure and keep a player tapped down; this is useless for early pressure, as they keep playing permanents untapped. Does anyone else feel this way?

You could just replace fading with "at the beginning of your upkeep, put a ~name~ counter on ~this~. When ~this~has 5 or more ~name~ counters on it, sacrifice ~this~."
