After going through my old cards, I found yet another card that I'm not sure about anymore.

If I have a [card]North Star[/card] in play, and I activate it during my upkeep, can I then use mana from something like a Thran Turbine to pay for an instant?

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

Wouldn't it be easier to just use turbine mana for the activation of the north star?

And no, you can't use turbine mana to cast ANY spells, even if it is an instant with a colorless mana cost.

Yeah, there wasn't "no spell" mana when Legends was printed. They did have workshop mana so I can see how this would be confusing. The "any type of mana" really means regular colorless mana.
