I thought Sakura Tribe-Elder was pretty good coming from CHK. It seems to me a blue counterpart getting arties out would only be natural. To not make it too insane, I figured I'd up the CC a little, and restrict what you can get.

Sacrifice *this*: Search your library for a artifact card with a CC of 1 or less, put that card into play , then shuffle your library.

I left out the CIPT part, since it seems to be less important for an artifact (even though this fetches lotus, but there is no net mana gain if you do it rightaway!)
Seems fair, or should I improve it? Also, if anyone wants to slap some cool Aztec flavor on this baby, I'm all for it!

He's only familiar with one section and he keeps falling off the ladder. He'll fit right in with the other researchers, when he's older.

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

Do you really want people to go crazy with Myr Servitor/Skullclamp combo? This can get either one. Do we care if this gets Skullclamp anyway? The only format where Skullclamp is even legal is Vintage, and there are better 0-1cc artifacts to get there. As for the card, it's pretty fair as is... just not terribly interesting. As Jacob said, it's very close to Trinket Mage, and given we don't have a huge cog thing going on I find it hard to see where this card will be useful. If you want to make a blue mirror to Sakura-Tribe Elder, why don't you make it Merchant Scroll on a stick instead? |

If you want to make a blue mirror to Sakura-Tribe Elder, why don't you make it Merchant Scroll on a stick instead? Oh man. That'd be awesome. I think we could even cost it at 1U, if it stayed limited to blue instants. |

hm, that'd be pretty awesome.
It isn't that close to trinket mage since this actually is pretty good, compared to trinket mage at least.
ok I'll change it to a running merchant scroll, that is pretty sweet.

Merchant Scroll is a sorcery. Is that something that should be considered or is the ability to get a counterspell at instant speed whenever you need one fine? Maybe you should have to tap it to use the ability. That makes it wait a turn and doesn't let you apply the massive beatz.

The flavour isn't all that mundane. Judgement gave us Hapless Researcher (one of the inspirations for the flavour text) and Urza's Saga gave us Disruptive Student. The flavour of both of those is somewhat mundane. Before you clock/close this, I want to edit that flavour text a little. I'm not happy with the way it scans. Edit: I came up with something that I like. He's only familiar with one section and he keeps falling off the ladder. He'll fit right in with the other researchers, when he's older.Capitalize "Librarian", by the way. |

Sakura Tribe Elder is exactly the same as Rampant Growth, but with a 1/1 body attached. 2U would be fair if this was a CIP ability, but since you have to sacrifice the creature to get the card, 1U is fair. |

@Ephraim: Merchant Scroll isn't really the top of the bill when it comes to getting cards in your hand. It sees play in NO formats whatsoever. I don't really see the big problem with this, but if you can prove to me it is dangerous, I'll consider it.
