Fixing Neutral Ground NYC Vintage tournaments

Hey guys my name is Elias and I am a regular at Neutral Ground in NYC and one of the top guys there wanted me to help him organize better tournaments for all formats. I am a regular Type 1 player have made top 8's here and there in all different formats.

Neutral Ground is in the heart of NYC therefore given the right prize structure a high attendance can be expected. I proposed to Neutral Ground for the month of March have a tournament for $15 for a Workshop for first place, Mana Drain for second and a dual land for rest of top 8. They need to have about a minimum of 22 players to run this tournament. It was just a generic brainstorm of a tournament of the top of my head.

Now what I would like is other ideas that are realisitc if enough players would like something better for a tournament. Basically anyone provide an idea for a tournament and if enough people approve and say they will show up for that date in March (which you can choose as well) it will basically be sealed.

Enough people showing enthusiasm to show up for this March tournament I will help run it and I am also revamping Neutral Grounds type 1 tournaments every Friday night, a minimum of 8 players for $2 each person a Dual Land will be given away...not so shabby I am trying it's better then those crappy foils they give away etc. Please feel free to PM me if you would like I am always reading TMD forums I am sure with all of your help we can really reshape Neutral Ground's tournies.

The basics:

Day: Sunday over Saturday but both are fine

Prize: Moxes, Workshop, etc.

Price: $10 - $20 depending on prize

Proxies: 10 no more no less.

Time: Noon-ish

Neutral Ground needs some help lately, at the last proxy tournament other players were telling me how each month the attendance has been slipping and the prizes get worse each month. I think one problem is the safety of Neutral Ground, I've had about $100 of cards stolen from there, many others have a similar experience. I don't really know how to change this problem but IMO it turns some people off.

Second, its hard for a large store to run a tournament and make a decent profit. They would of course rather use it as an excuse to sell other supplies, packs, books, whatever. Having arranged tournaments with Game Universe in Milwaukee the cost effectiveness of the admissions vs the prize were the biggest issue. Although James (GU) was buying moxes off Ebay since no locals were willing to sell them to him which probably is costing him more than Neutral Ground gets their moxes for.

It's hard to do as a owner but maybe you can lower admissions in hopes of more people coming and other buying merchandise around the store.

Also they have not been advertised as well or promoted on TMD. There are plenty of players in NYC and Jersey to play in a good tournament.

Lastly I think they need someone who cares about T1 to promote and organize the event. James at Game Universe was very excited to bring T1 to Milwaukee.
