I don't know TMD's policy on discussing other websites, but I was wondering what the heck happened over at MTGnews with the recent resignations and whatnot. I understand that Rancored_elf and other of the sites mods resigned, but I am very curious as to what actually happened to cause this. Due to the information blackout on the MTGnews boards I think that here would be a good place to discuss what happened.

i'm not entirely clear about what happened, but it seems that they weren't entirely happy about how the website was being run, with empty promises and whatnot

Yes, I just got wind of that site as well. I think that wherever the rumor mill goes, people will follow. I don't however think it's all that great, because it will take a while to rebuild the community that they once had.

Basically, don't use TMD as a place to randomly bash other websites, but a question like this is fine if you need to turn here for an answer because you can't get it at the site in question.

I don't know any of the old 'news mods personally, but there has been somewhat of a corporate takeover at the site. Anyone who has frequented mtgnews for their information knows the immense contributions Rancored_Elf has made to the community there, and indirectly to all other magic sites as well. There was some disagreement between him and the owners of the site, and he, all the admins, and some other mods resigned in protest of being treated badly. They were immediately banned. Another previous member of the mtgnews community created a new site for them to go to (and to take Rancored_Elf's rumor skills to), and it has been super-banhammered from mtgnews.com - any mention of the site at all, and you will get banned. This is all due to the owner's "right hand man" taking over the forums and banning anything he doesn't like. After DG (the creator of mtgnews) left some time ago, I have not had any loyalty to the site, but only to the important members of the community like Rancored_Elf, and I would strongly recommend to anyone who has been to mtgnews to give the new site a chance:

It's crazy how many people have followed R_E and others into their new website. I think that they have over 1000 members now, which is less than a week after the creation. This is definately one of the more important stories in magic in the last little while.
