You asked and shall now recieve. There are like infy budget decks, but I picked 5 I think have a reasonable chance of doing well in 5 proxy events.

Writing articles on request, a nice way to score maximum points. A good read. Now, only to find someone who wants to organize a 5 proxy tournament in this area...

If you have to proxy Mana Drain as well, then the only things worth proxying with 1 slot is either Ancestral Recall or Black Lotus. Personally I'd take the Ancestral, because the extra draw is usually more helpful than the Lotus acceleration. You'd then add the 4th Tropical Island, possibly more fetchlands and a Fact or Fiction to help fill the empty slots.

How necessary is Mana Drain to the deck? Would it be a possibility to sub Mana Leak or Counterspell in for the Drains and instead play with the full rack of on-colour power? My reasoning is that the list you present only has 5 Drain sinks anyway (3 Scryings and 2 Wishes), and so Drain is not at its best. The trouble would be that cutting Drain would probably mean losing Skeletal Scrying as a draw engine, and I'm not sure there are any good replacements other than Impulse or (ugh) Standstill. So: is losing Drain a possibilty you've considered, and if so, what did you think of it?

If you cut Scrying you usually have to fall back on AK crap and go towards a more Meandeck-esque build. So yeah, AK or DA might be worthwhile, but on the whole losing Scrying is just blah. The extra mana also comes in good handy post board.

Good job - this is an important article and you fairly analyzed all the decks.

Great article.

I am actually finding MORE Vintage stuff on SCG.com than before, even though I'm not premium.  Maybe their claims were true: more articles in general.

I know you wrote the awesome FCG primer, but were you really the "port into Vintage" developer of it? Just curious.

Again, this is a great article.  I may even print it up for the locals to read (if you don't mind, of course).

There was some talk before my first post on the subject, but nothing substanial, nor any lists. As far as I know I had the first refined T1 build of it.

And yeah, I'd be happy if more people saw my articles for reference. ;D

I just posted a topic in the newbie forum about FCG with a reference to your decklist I hope this isn't a problem?

Ps. It would be greatly appreciated if your FCG holyness gave me some advice about it...Razz

As far as 5 proxy decks are concerned...

Those of us with Power own Magic. (I have Power 7, blue dual lands and 2 mana drains).

Is there any tourney data that shows 5 proxy decks succeeding in tournaments?

In NorCal, there are only so many tournaments to go around (and is the basis for all of my actual real life experiences), but the last "big" tourney I went to (31 players! Go Norcal!), i recall a bunce of Slaver decks and Doomsday Decks.

When it comes to Doomsday, well, it's a cool combo deck and all, but one Doomsday deck actually took combat damage from SLIVERS!

Is there any data of say, someone making top 4 in a bigger tourney with their five/ten proxies?  I am just curious. (Dr. Sylvan, we need you!)

I love T1 magic, and I am grateful that I have the cardpool I have due to...uh...not being put in a position to sell my power and/or having to buy it back.

Given the death of Fish (and strangely, Wasteland in general), is there hope for the Unpowered magic player?

are there players out there who have won power (east coast, obviously), who got by with their 5 proxies? (as opposed to having an entire deck lent to them?)
