Great read!  It would have also been interesting to see different house rules on Richard Garfield, P.H.D and on the wishes.

This was a really interesting article.  Is anyone interested in compiling a list of cards that become good enough to be playable/ lower in power enough to be playable under different house rules?

For example, Fist of the Suns is clearly ridiculously powerful under the "alternate casting costs don't count as your spell for the turn” rule.  There are some other very interesting cards, though.

Here is a list of some cards affected when the ACC rule is in effect:

North Star (taps to let you play an extra spell this turn)
Temporal Aperture (becomes a very good Elkin Bottle variant)
Force/Misdirection/Snuff Out/the Shoals all become better
The Bringers become really good if their ACC is counted
Spelljack is even more powerful than before
Reversal of Fortune can be played
Many more morph creatures are playable if playing a morph creature doesn’t count as your spell for the turn

If you play the “you have basic lands that you can use to power spells/abilities” there are probably tons of playable cards that use these abilities:

Uyo, Silent Prophet (probably would need Quanar-like errata to only be able to copy a spell once a turn)
Constant Mists/Sunstone/Glacial Crevasses (all reusable fog effects, Constant Mists is clearly the weakest)
Polar Kraken and Infernal Denizen- I always wanted to put these guys in a deck
Leviathan and Marjhan- lots of bad creatures can be played
Soldevi Sage (1/1, tap to draw 3 cards and discard one of them)
Rushing River is decent bounce
A bunch of Soratami cards work well: Soratami Mirror-Mage is a Masticore-type bounce effect, Soratami Cloudskater is Compulsion, Soratami Rainshaper makes your creature untargettable
Fire Dragon can be played (with some ruling like “when fire dragon comes into play, it deals an amount of damage of your choice to target creature”)
Horobi’s Whisper doesn’t need any errata to work
Genju of the Realm works without hand waving
Ovinomancer is great if you want to remember the days of Warcraft II

If you play both of the above rules, there are a number of alternate casting cost cards where the acc’s involve lands.  Here are some of the better ones I can think of:

Fireblast
Submerge
Mogg Salvage
Crash
Thwart
Gush
Pulverize
Refreshing Rain
Reverent Silence
Ensnare
Tidal Bore
