Back with a new post...this time I have my head on straight.
The budget version with Haunting Misery posted above is pretty much the EXACT version that I use to run, but then I changed to songs/drain life.
Here's the problem with both: No Fluctuator in opening hand, and no way to get it. Mulligan, Mulligan, Nothing, scoop
Haunting Misery is not the answer because if it's countered, discarded, or doesn't kill your opponent, you don't get a second chance. There is just too many ways to lose. Scoop!
The 7 card rule for Fluctuator (only 7 non-cyclers) does work (sorta), but you can't play with it competitively, because it relies on having a strong opening hand (basically, Fluctuator and enough mana to play it fast enough...c'mon Blasted Landscape!)
I've been playtesting for the past week and trying to come up with ideas. Wheel of Fortune is definitely working nicely. Perhaps getting a Timetwister in there would be beneficial too.
I also experimented with different manabases, and have had decent results, but nothing optimal yet.
I'm trying to find a way to use draw cards to prevent stalling. It enables you to keep cycling, yet possibly gets what you need. The only problem with that is the fact that card drawing is mana intensive.
Koffie: That's definitely the direction that I'm looking. It gets you new cards and its mana efficient. Another nice thing is that you don't have to discard any goodies that you are already holding...
The downside is when you only have 1 or 2 cards in your hand, because it's not as great of a payoff when you use it, and coming up with enough red mana early.
