Although its a work in progress, I am planning on running a Type 1 Unlimited Proxy tournament (to suit local players and newbs w/o power) at my house near Blacksburg, VA some time in June.  At this point, I will put up a Mana Drain as the first place prize and have a likely second place prize of something like a blue dual land or Morphling.  The entry fee is probably going to be $15, with a minimum of 10 participants to have the event, and I thought I would post the basics of this idea here to see how many people around the area may be interested.  Feel free to post if this sounds good

Okay, so I am assuming you mean the one on Montgomery county, since that is the biggest one. There is one in Washington county also.

I did not know there was more than 1 Blacksburg in Virginia.  The one I am talking about is in Montgomery county and is where Virginia Tech is located.  I am still looking around locally to see about people who are interested and will possibly have at least 5 other locals than myself who would possibly participate.  I may not be any major store like star city, but our local tournament scene has crappy prizes and people have been asking me for some of my own top cards for a while.  I believe that this would likely bring more people by having a worthwhile prize available for a somewhat reasonable entry fee.  Last, I am glad to see people possibly interested in this.

If you ran it in June would you run another one during the school year (when I'll be back in town and hopefully within hitching/driving range)?

Depending if I am still living at home, since I am in the process of looking for employment the answer would probably be yes.  This tournament will likely be the 3rd weekend of June and hopefully I will be able to hold it at my house (but I got no sewer, gas, or water hook-up for your hitch lol).  If I do move, I may end up moving to Tenessee or Washington, DC, but would still at some point love to do this

The idea of a tournament at someone's house seems sorta sketchy, particularly for the drive from Richmond.

I ran by the idea by the local comic store owner, but he did not want to advertise it if the tournament would be held at the store (not a good move, considering that many would want to hear about it here on TMD) and because of the fact that people can not buy and sell cards there.  I also considered running the tournament at the local student center, but doubt that with the entry fee that I have posted that I could afford a regular room.  I also have an Unl (EX) Ancestral Recall that I could use as a prize, but doubt that I would first be able to find enough people locally and also that anyone would be interested in going in with me on the costs of running such a tournament.

The fact that this would be run from my garage may seem sketchy, but I have the prizes ready (English Drain 1st, Morphling 2nd, Jester's Cap - Last place) and there should be enough room for around 20 people.  It may be a small town I live in, but
I figure that this would still be sorta fun and to attract more players to the area.  This is, remember just a brainstorm, and I really do not want to be flamed over trying to bring some fun to the local metagame and some profit for myself
