First time poster, long time reader.
I am a type one player for going on 10 years, and I recently nearly quit after seeing the 'fun' of playing workshop-prison decks that include the always exciting 4 copies of trinis. I did win a black lotus tourney before pseudo-retiring with a strange version of 4cc, minus the black and red. Without further ado, I am going to give my most recent decklist, which is tuned to beat oath and aggro-shop, but lost horribly to trinispheres.
The mana: 26
1x Tolarian Academy 4x Wasteland 1x Strip Mine 4x Tundra 4x Flooded Strand 1x Library of Alexandria 5x Moxen 1x Sol Ring 1x Black Lotus 2x Island 1x Plains 1x Karakas
The bombtastic: 13 1x Tinker 1x Mystical Tutor 1x Ancestral Recall 1x Time Walk 1x Decree of Justice 1x Balance 1x Fact or Fiction 4x Brainstorm 1x Crucible of Worlds 1x Gifts Ungiven 1x Timetwister
The counter-machine: 14 4x Force of Will 4x Mana Drain 2x Mana Leak 4x Swords to Plowshares
Critters: 6 4x Exalted Angel 1x Darksteel Colossus 1x Eternal Dragon 1x Karn, Silver Golem
Yeah, the total is 61, but I have some German in my blood, I can't help it.
SB:
4x Serenity 1x Platinum Angel 1x Disenchant 1x Engineered Explosives 4x Meddling Mage 3x Tormod's Crypt 1x Masticore
The early game plays much like a w/u version of landstill, with not much proactivity going on, just trying to hang around, stop them from comboing out or setting up a lock against your position. This deck wins on the 4-5 turn by playing a bomb (usually angel or gifts) with counter protection, unless you get the nuts draw and go tinker for colossus turn 1.
I've found that the leaks are really weak cards, but allow another hard counter besides force on turn one if on the play, and catch people off-guard as an added bonus. I used to play with Serendibs over the full complement of swords, but the meta-game in the midwest is very oath and artifact fat dependent, so swords is rarely dead. The four angels are usually pretty strong, and I enjoy the strong possibility of aggro-control against decks not sporting combo or prison elements.
The SB is a tough choice for me, with the only spots locked up being the lone EE (tinker target and oath popper) and the 4 serenitys. I really enjoy going kamikaze style with serenity, as it usually hits some of my moxen, but gets rid of all sorts of disgusting plays, with or without welder out. I rolled with seal of cleansing before this, but found it to be very weak, similar to trying to feed a hungry lion with a single t-bone. Serenity is like giving the lion an entire cow, in comparision. (If workshop decks are animalistic, of course) Oath is also really big here, hence the maindeck Karakas, and the StPs for game numero uno.
Well, I want to roll into StarCity Chicago with a U/W aggro-control deck, and any thoughts on a better tuned SB or main would be appreciated. This deck performs well against the mirror, aka 4cc, and beats tog regularly by going after draw spells and playing angel. Also, FCG and aggro shop decks get plowed consistently, then lil' miss exalted finishes up. Tough games are the oath post-board (when they bring iridescent and pristine in) and any type of workshop prison, or workshop control (CS) builds. All constructive criticism will be appreciated, and I look forward to your responses.
