Anyone out here that already played the game? Opinions?
I just purchased it off eBay. That is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying it in the shops.
Also I´m going to buy a new computer. Some P4-based thing of the 3GHz kind (or AMD equivalent).
Anyone has any suggestions for a build, like graphics card, motherboard? I´m sure there most be some hardcore gamers on this site.

You should be able to run Half-life 2 without any problems. The system requirements of the game are far below your configuration.
The game is nice, with some cool stuff in it. Certainly one of the best FPS I played (it's not my prefered game genre). The gravity gun is cool, but it's also due to this gun that you have to do some tedious bits. The physics engine is awesome.

No room in the house exceeds a length of twenty-five feet, let alone fifty feet, let alone fifty-six and a half feet, and yet Chad and Daisy's voices are echoing, each call responding with an entirely separate answer. In the living room, Navidson discovers the echoes emanating from a dark, doorless hallway which has appeared out of nowhere in the west wall.

This game is fucking awesome. My only complaint was that it was too short. If you haven't yet, update your CS:Source and play it. It is amazing.

I have only a 1.5 gHz P4 with 768 megs of RAM and I think a GeForce4 with 128 megs of RAM and it runs like perfectly on my computer even at high detail.

I'm about to buy parts for a new machine with the assistance of a friend who knows way more about such things than I. I'll let you know what I settle on, since it looks like we're shooting for about the same performance level.

People have been playing counterstrike:source for awhile now, but it wasn't the real version of the game.
Last month Valve released the full version of CS:Source - fully updated levels, skins, weapons, physics, everything. If you have played counterstrike ever, then you definitely want to play source. Next month Valve is adding some more stuff to the full engine, and making a new level just to show off the new lighting code.
So, basically, play counterstrike.

Well, I don´t know what you bought but I purchased an [brag] Athlon 64 3500 with 1 GB of DDR400 RAM and a HIS Excalibur (X850XT PCI-Express 256 MB) graphics card, all on a ASUS A8V-E Deluxe Motherboard [/brag] I was actually not going to buy such a high-end machine, but non-availability of the desired components made me buy this (I could have settled for a X700PRO graphics card and save myself $300, but in that case I would have been looking at a graphics card upgrade within 1-2 years and I preferred to make that investment right now) This configuration should assure some decent gaming

So I totally forgot about this thread. I'm now posting from my new machine.
I got a 2.8 GHz P4, 512MB DDR2, a 120GB, 7200 SATA hard drive, a NEC 3520A dvd burner, and a GeForce 6600 GT (and a case and motherboard) for about $800 I plan on upgrading the RAM later, but this is good for now.
