Nice job Smile

Because they deserve credit for their work, Carl was playing a slightly modified Team CAB's "Gifted" deck, as posted by Carsten Kötter in his first article introducing the deck in January.

I'm only putting it under SSB because when I asked Carl what he was playing during our run to Subway, he said "your deck"

Also, I just want to point out some of the weirdness in these lists:  an EBA made it, a Keeper made it, and in day two a very peculiar Bazaar powered madness without red made the cut as well.

Well, I was sort of playing your deck Razz.

BTW, Eli was 5th, and I was 3rd.  Just to set the record straight.  Other than that that's a decent Top 16.

Oops!  Sorry Carl.  I thought that was the case, but Ray sent them to me a little out of order.

And if I were posting pity lists, I'd post my own, since I'm the winner of the first ever Goblin Game life counter.  :p

For what its worth, I shamelessly copied Kowal's list. And modified the maindeck by like 1 card.

I think that's the first I've seen Rich top 8 without winning. It's an odd odd feeling.

Ashok really put a lot of work into his Fish list too and I'd like to point it out to people who might have passed it up or just been drawn to the winning Fish list. It opens up a lot of design options and I'm really proud of how it turned out (OMGOMG DANDAN!).

I'm almost twice as excited over this list than I was over the winning list I saw the other day. The winning list is good, yeah, but this build is so much more broad and open than most fish decks I've seen to date.

Dandan - I haven't seen this guy in years, and after sitting in my shoebox holder for some time I'm going to start testing with him. Everyone uses Islands in vintage ya know.

Rootwater Thief - This thing sounds like an amazing MVP, you can disrupt your opponents pile whiles flying with Ninjutsu. Sounds wonderful to me!

Fish that uses ....fish.

Go Jersey!

Congrats to 2 of my friends who did well, Andy Bilarczyk w/ the EBA top 16 finish, and Ralph Parsinitz for making top 8 day 2. I also wanted to say wtf to another insane NJ participant, John Murphy who ALMOST made top 8 day 2 with an unpowered "Raging Goblin, Blazing Shoal+Myojin, Blazing Shoal+Myojin, take 21.dec"

Waterbury was a blast and I can't wait for the next one!

Dan Dan is great when your opponent plays islands, of course when your opponent plays memnarch and then steals your Dan Dan, things go wrong.

Well travis, your right that no perm. stands a chance against an active memnarch unless its untargetable/protection.

Your wrong in the sense saying its useless against anything that doesn't run islands.  Its good also in the aggro mirror because its adds to factories as another creature that can trade with bigger guys like madness creatures, juggernauts/chi, etc.  Its especially good in vial because you can ambush your opponents attackers with said dandan.  It gets silly if you have an active waterfront bouncer because instead of bouncing their guys you can down one of their critters with dandan and return him, making him virtually a wall against good aggro critters.

SIDENOTE:
Old fish decks unless they were quipped/pumped somehow, had to go 2 for even 3 for 1 at times to trade with a decent threat.  Thats why exalted angel and ftk was a house in 4cc at the time (besides it pwning all agrro).  Ftk came into play and removed a threat.  Being a 4 power creature it could potentially reverse the slow clock you have on your opponent.  And to get rid of it you would essential have to trade 2 for 1.  Thats already a 3 for 1 in ftk's favor.  Angel works the same because it has 6 toughness.  What makes them even better was the fact that 4cc had spot removal so if you at times attempted to take down a big threat like that, they could remove one of your blocks and fuck up all your combat math and force to try again.

I didn't mean anything insulting with what I said, I think it's a great choice in the deck, and fun to say besides.  No one see's it coming with vial. Also, the 3 bouncers were the shit, they are a house against any aggro deck.

Hurah for Oath Salvagers making top 8 both days.

What was the meta like at Waterbury?

Was his the only or one of few Oath Salvager decks in the field?

Anyone else notice that Oath Salvager builds are cropping up consistantly in top 8 lists?

Have Salvagers finally earned some respect?

I would very much like to see a report by Dan, see what kind of hate he fought through, whether or not he had a cake-walk etc.  Anyone who knows him, please forward my request. LotusHead wants to know.

@LotusHead

I will ask Dan to write a report or at least get back to you.  I will give some brief info on the deck.  It was the first time he had ever picked up the deck and first time he played it before.  That and the fact that half of the deck was mine Very Happy  Anyway, he did solid and seemed to face all sorts of decks.  While talking during the day he said the trouble he was running into was te fish type stuff.  I will have him do some detailed write up.
