The big new thing on the block is the marquee mechanic of the set: Epic. These huge spells promise big returns once they resolve, but their mana costs and other limiting factors will probably keep most from constructed play. So how do they stack up in Type 4?

You are pretty much spot on with your analysis, as always.

A few of my ideas are posted in response to the SCG thread, so I won't echo them here.

As far as the Epic spells go, the Blue one and White one are definitely the only playables - in a two player game, I would give the edge to the Blue one, but the more players you add, the more significantly the power level of each drops, due to the increased counterwall they will face.

I give the edge to the white one overall, since it isn't nearly as offensive and might not always draw fire, while it still allows you to do some pretty broken things assuming your portion of the stack has some beefy enchantments and spells that have activated abilities in your hand (like Decree of Silence, etc.).

Oh man, the Kirin are sooooo good in my stack. Evermind is probably the best card now, though.

I really like the idea of booster drafting the cards.  It means that you don't know who has what card, which makes for more interesting play and also lets everyone draft cards at once, which should speed up the process a lot.

Nice article.

I missed a few of the cards you wrote about when I looked at the set for my stack.  But then again, that's why I read it.

Inane as One has been very good in my stack with Kukusho, Tomorrow, Black and Green Myojin, and Spirit of the Night for spirits.

The blue Epic spell has only been played once, upon which it was countered.  Death Denied has been nothing but trash.  IT's worse than Goryo's Vengeance, Beancon of Unrest, and Twilight's Call.

So what's the verdict on Homura? I kinda like him. The only problem is if you play him and you have a way to kill him that turn, eg by having a masticore on the table. Then he's much better than Door or Chimeric Coils. Still, he's in my stack and staying there until more people complain about him.
