if you understand triggered abilities. The way they work is that when a spell of the appropriate colour is cast, the lucky charm's ability triggers and goes on the stack. The triggered ability resolves
exactly once and states. "You may pay 1 Mana. If you do, you gain 1 life." For each instance of the triggered ability, you may pay exactly

and gain exactly 1 life. If you had multiple lucky charms in play, each one would activate and you could pay

for each activated charm.
