Basic question:

Is it possible to gain more than 1 life per spell cast by paying the activation more than once?

No, you can't. The 4th Edition printing of the so-called "lucky charms" stated this explicitly. The wording of the 8th Edition wording also makes it clear if you understand triggered abilities. The way they work is that when a spell of the appropriate colour is cast, the lucky charm's ability triggers and goes on the stack. The triggered ability resolves exactly once and states. "You may pay 1 Mana. If you do, you gain 1 life." For each instance of the triggered ability, you may pay exactly {1} and gain exactly 1 life. If you had multiple lucky charms in play, each one would activate and you could pay {1} for each activated charm.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

Whenever a player plays a red spell, you may pay 1. If you do, you gain 1 life.

They don't have an "activation cost".  They have a triggered ability.  When the trigger resolves, you can pay 1 mana to gain 1 life.  That's it.  No options to pay more.

Thank's guys; I read the oracle rules, but should have taken a look at some various print editions.

I'll put the Mirrodin Charms (angel feather, etc. into my fun set)
