For whatever reason I just remembered that scene in LOTR when Legolas takes down a huge elephant creature thing (not up on the jargon!) and I got to thinking, how would one implement that in a MTG card..

Guard of the Gate
W
Creature - Human Knight

When -this- blocks a creature with power 4 or greater, destroy that creature.

"flavor + text = here."
1/1

This might be better served as a green card but I'm always thinking about stupid whiteweenie.dec, so MEH.  The idea is, in standard combat he's left to his own tricks as much as anyone else but against a usually imposing beast he's running between their legs all ESB style.  The execution needs polish but it was a spur of the moment concept, and like I said it might just be more Green than White, being that green deals with big beasts all the time.  Thoughts?

looks cool. It does make some sense to give this to white. Think Intrepid Hero. Think Retribution of the Meek. Think all that other kill stuff that's big stuff that white has :p

In any case, shouldn't this be a Soldier?

Current wording:
Guard of the Gate
W
Creature - Human Soldier

When -this- blocks a creature with power 4 or greater, destroy that creature.

"flavor + text = here."
1/2

Edit: Made a Soldier, since it's a 'guard'.  :P
Edit: Upped the p/t to 1/2.

I like it. The ability is also established in the white cards Reprisal and Radiant's Judgment.

Whenever ~this~ blocks a creature with power 4 or greater, destroy that creature at end of combat.

Is this okay at only W? The ability to either stall out your opponent's big ground creatures or force them to trade a big investment for just a one white mana guy on your side seems awfully good. I could easily see this still being playable at 1W.

Also, I like how white has a decent amount of pump effects that can help this guy do his thing. Synergy is always nice.

I'd rather just have deleted it alltogether since it doesn't contribute in the slightest, but I've made it a clickable link instead since it's kinda funny. Killertree: please take more care with your posts. You're walking on thin ice.

Um, what in god's name is that picture?

I always liked Giant Growthing something, then Reprisaling it. This is a good card, I endorse it fully.

If you didn't know, you'd need at least four guesses to guess what color it is, too.

I like this card a lot as well. It is very neat.

A couple of suggestions:

1. This card would work well at either 1W or just W, depending on the set it was introduced in. If it were scourge, then it would be 1W, if it were fallen empires (with one big creature I can remember) W would be fine.

2. Maybe base this on the defiant vanguard ability if you do price it at W. Make it this:

Defiant Bodyguard
W
Whenever ~this~ blocks a creature with power 4 or greater, destroy ~this~ and that creature.
1/1

No, he's definately not a 1W guy.  One ability that's useless if the opponent is playing few/zero creatures, or creatures with small p/t.  Remember that White usually gets to tack on a combat related ability at no extra cost, two if it's in their color to do so (Deftblade Elite, White Knight etc).  This is the Reprisal effect so it flies.
Flavor text?

This guy could reasonably be a 1/2 for the same cost.

I don't like it at 1/2. The extra point of toughness is irrelevant against fat and actually takes away from the flavour of the 'little guy in a fat coat'. If you really want a 1/2 give him Defender but that makes him suck. I don't think the 1/2 is a power level issue, just about flavout.

As long as there's no actual power issues, 24 hour clock.
