I'm contemplating on attending Gen Con for the first time this year and I was just wondering if the badge registration covers for the registration fee for the Type 1 World Championships.

Thanks in advance

No, you need to purchase an event ticket for it.  No events are included as part of the badge.  The badge is needed to play in the events, and to explore the dealer room (well, in theory).  On site, you just buy generic tokens, which are like cash for events.  They won't take green paper money at the event registration tables, for whatever reason.

Based on the last two years, the lines for tickets on Thursday will be hundreds or a thousand long and move ass slow.  The first Type 1 tournament is usually around 1 or 2 pm and there are usually SO many people who don't have tickets that they just take cash for that event (at least the PES guys have the last 3 or 4 years).  Not saying they will this year, but if they don't, they'd have like 20-30 instead of 50-60 because of the lines.  I know you can pick up your badges on Wed night; if you can pick up event tickets then too, do it.

Summary - if you're going to play on thursday, either buy tickets Wed night (if possible), get there REAL early thursday morning, or hope they take cash like that last couple years for that event.

Last year there was also a very small both just before you entered the gaming hall (when the Magic events were) where you could purchase tickets. This was a life saver last year. I'm not sure if it will be there again or not though.

right, but again don't plan on getting Thursday tickets there quickly.  I stood there for 2 hours on Thursday and we moved 30 feet.

Apparently every year, there are "massive network problems" on Thursday that affect cause all the screen to take like 5 minutes to load each (at least the two years at indy and the year before at milwaukee).

Don't forget that the printers always break and out of the hundreds of workers there, only 1 is capable of fixing it-and he is on break...in Australia.

true.  I've been to gencon every year from 1991 through 2004 (excluding 2003 and I won't make it this year) and every thursday is always a cluster fuck.  But from Thursday night through Sunday it runs "smoove".  Yes, with a V.
