nick . . . will you be back with my stuff for this??

I will most likely be there, even if a lot of my stuff is coming back from gencon with nick and pat, or whoever is going.

Yeah, he'll be back by then.

So when the ad says 'This prize payout is GUARANTEED by D.M.F. regardless of attendance!,' does that mean it will actually be given away this time even if only 20 people show?

As someone who wasn't even at the last event, I'm not sure what you're suggesting, especially without knowing what went on, or at least telling the conditions that led to the Time Walk not being awarded. Of course, since you're setting up your own deal, I'm sure such statements that can potentially sully another tournaments reputation can only help you.

When the players realized that I was in a definite situation where the store was going to lose money, several players suggested I should drop the prize and just award cash based on attendance. I was quite clear that the prize was guaranteed, the loss was an accepted risk, and I was willing to payout the Time Walk.

The players got together amongst themselves, and decided that a cash prize based on attendance was preferable to them rather then the store losing on the tournament. I made it clear again that if even one player was not happy, I would award the Time Walk and other prizes.

The players came to me and wanted a different prize structure to prevent the store losing money. That's why I have always maintained that the So. Cal. T1 players are the best in the world bar none. It would have been very easy for them to just take the Walk and other prizes and I would have never suggested otherwise.

When I say guaranteed, I mean it. If only 4 people show up the prizes will walk out the door unless the players dictate otherwise. Which at the tournament before was shown when I actually lost money, as I only covered the first place prize, of course you wouldn't know, as you weren't at that one either.

For you to suggest otherwise on a public forum is extremely low class, baseless, and down right rude, but hey it's a free internet.

Shawn, I'm not trying to take a shot at you or the store, as what I think you do is great, and I've enjoyed every tournament I've been able to attend (as in, when I haven't been working overtime or buying a car). I'm just wondering if a piece of power will be given away this time, as I know it is dissapointing to go to an event where that is specified, and then it doesn't happen. It's been a recurring theme/problem for most tournament operators; possibly lose money on a tournament and guarantee a prize, or possibly lose participants and not guarantee a prize.

As an aside, the tournaments I plan to host won't be in Southern California anyway, so I won't be competing with you. When I eventually move back to Chicago I plan on starting a 'Grand Prix' type circuit with an alternative 'sanctioning body,' that will allow proxies and keep track of 'proxy Vintage rating' for all reported tournaments and registered members.

JACO, no problem. It's been a long busy week and it probably just hit me the wrong way. With no explanation it sounded like I just up and changed my mind.

Anyways, Hopin' to see you guys after a months break
