I'm not playing type 1 at all these days, so I'm posting this on this forum...

I was browsing a few cards and I noticed a card that might be overlooked by well... just about everyone because when one comes to think of Antiquities we think about Mishra's Workshop and a few other notables. Here's what I came accross:

Citanul Druid   1G
Creature — Druid
1/1
Whenever an opponent plays an artifact spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Citanul Druid.

Now, could this be good in type 1 currently? With the popularity of artifacts and so many decks reserving maindeck slots to fight them could this be useful to some deck? Perhaps some aggro control? Fish? Something else? Either way I think it's an interesting card that was worth some discussion since I've never seen anyone mention it. The bad thing is that it doesn't trigger on you playing the artifacts, which is somewhat bad, but since just about any type 1 deck nowadays packs a sh*tload of cheap artifacts I guess this could grow up pretty fast...

I think it sucks Smile

You have to get it out very quickly, because generally in two-three turns workshop has his hand (almosty) emptied.
I´d rather have an instant type of spell for the same cost that destroys an artifact (and if possible: puts tokens into play)

As I said, I haven't been playing nor paying much attention to type 1 for quite a while... so if you say it sucks, I'll take it from ya. I just suggested the card for discussion because it seemed like a nice artifact hate ability Smile

if it said "Whenever an artifact is played [this] gets a +1/+1 counter" then it would be good in some decks, but as it is now, i don't think you would be able to find a deck in which it would fit, not to mention a deck in which it would be good.
First of all: It's a green creature... We don't see many of them being played.
Second: As Gabethebabe said, you have to drop it turn one, maybe two, to make it have any imppact on the game, and still you have to rely on your opponent playing a couple of artifacts before it was a good choice... Id' rather just make sure he doesn't cast ANY artifacts, make sure he can't use 'em (null rood, root maze) or simply destroy them if they suddenly lies on the board looking fiercely in your direction...

When I first got myself one of these years ago, I thought it might be good.  So I put it in a multi player deck, but even though we sometimes had 9 people playing, it just never got big enough to be useful.  Much like Gaea's Avenger in the same set.

How does this have any advantage over hidden guerillas?

Pip it don't. Yes it could get huge in theory, but only one or two decks it would work against. Now hidden guerillas cost one less and just need one artifact to make it a 4/4.

But I found that there are thing better then hidden guerillas anyway.

Hidden geurrillas actually becomes 5/3... It is indeed a good card - the sory fact is, however, that it is green...

Thats what I get for not looking it up . Yes I have one of the other ones that become a 4/4 when they play something else.

But in both cases I would rather use River Boa or one of the other mainstream green creatures.

Maybe you're thinking of hidden gibbons. {G}:4/4 when opponent plays instant... This is sometimes (actually in many match-ups) better than river boa.

I'd rather know for the same casting cost and one for less that i have 4 naturalizes or 4 oxidize, but take it with a grain of salt because when shit hits the board id like some toilet paper to clean it up with.
