Card Name: Surge of Renewal
Casting Cost: RW
Card Type: Instant
Card Text: Deal three damage to target creature or player. You gain three life.
Flavor Text: Was it good for you?

Art would ideally involve some kind of hottie wielding white lightning. Vulshok Sorceress-ish, perhaps. I'd like to see this in a Strawberry-Parfait type deck, or possibly R/W Aggro, San Diego Zoo, or Goblin-Sligh that's splashed White for StP and Disenchant. The idea of the card is that it's a bolt of electricity that zaps the target and rejuvenates the caster at the same time.

EDIT: Gah, bad form on my part. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Hopefully this is more presentable.

Though you have some interesting ideas here, posting multiple cards like this isn't how this forum works. Please read the Rules of the Forum, and make new posts regarding the cards you would most like to see discussed.

While you're busy reading up on how things are done here, "make a current wording" post.

Although there is a very strong argument for this card being the colours you've chosen, I simply can't endorse it. The drain mechanic is firmly black. In my opinion, cards like [card]Reflect Damage[/card] or [card]Energy Bolt[/card] better reflect the role that R/W gold spells should have.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

I agree. While this looks like it should be an RW ability, it isn't. Making it modal would probably work, though.

I think I have to disagree with the opponents of this card, if for no other reason than we saw similar cards throughout the Invasion block that combined simple mechanics of the chosen colors.
However, making it 3 and 3 might be a bit strong.  3 damage at Instant speed for 2 hasn't come without a drawback for quite some time.  If it were 2 damage, 2 life for 2 mana, it'd be of a more appropriate power level..

I don't object to simple combinations of the functions of two colours as long as that combination doesn't incidentally mimic a function that already belongs to a different colour.

For example, you could say "white destroys enchantments, and red destroys artifacts! Therefore, I will make the following card:

ThisIsNotNaturalize
RW
Instant
Destroy target artifact or enchantment."

That has the exact same problem that this card does. Also, Essence Drain was 5 mana, not 2, AND a sorcery. This is clearly undercosted.

Essence Drain was also designed to be used exclusively in Limited, and it only had one color requirement, instead of being a color combination that is almost completely unplayable. I think the power level on this card would be entirely fair in any constructed enviroment.

I also have to disagree with the complaint that it mimics a Black ability. First of all, that ability is only Black for flavor reasons in the first place; direct damage is otherwise exclusively Red, and I would not be remotely surprised to see Black lose the Drain Life mechanic in future years. I had thought of how it is similar Drain Life cards, but I don't see how at the end of a day you can say that a Lightning Bolt stapled to a Healing Salve is anything short of Red-White.

I also see now problem with a RW Disenchant, aside from the fact that it's almost strictly worse than Disenchant. Hell, White by itself is still getting Disenchant effects.

Along the lines of what Jacob was saying, I think this is a more elegant example:

Let's take a very black card...

Ambition's Cost
3B
Sorcery
Draw three cards and lose three life.

...and a very white card...

Healing Salve
W
Instant
Gain three life.
(let's forget the damage prevention)

...and add them together. We get:

Concentrate
2UU
Sorcery
Draw three cards.

Do you think Wizards would print Concentrate at 3WB? Although both Ambition's Cost and Healing Salve are very much attached to their specific color, the end result was something very blue. This is very different then say Recoil or Absorb, as it didn't step on anyone else's toes.

Although we may not agree with the precedents that Wizards sets, I believe we have to abide by them.

P.S.: Ignoring the color issue, I agree that 3&3 is a bit much. 2&2 seems reaonable, though I think if you make this modal (Choose one --...), you can keep it at 3&3 and at RW, even though the red half will be used 95% of the time. Making it a split card at 2R/W would also work.
