Rather similar to something I've suggested before but also different...

Gaea's Treant
{G}{G}
Creature - Treefolk
X: Remove all +1/+1 counters from ~this~, put a +1/+1 counter on ~this~ for every Forest you control. X is equal to the number of Forests you control
Trample
1/1
You can't see the wood for the trees

So a 1/1 Trampler for GG is pretty weak but it can get bigger but it is only really strong in monogreen. Are there any cunning ways of putting Forests into play at Instant speed? (in response to the activation)

Latest wording

Gaea's Treant
{G}{G}
Creature - Treefolk
X: Remove all +1/+1 counters from ~this~. Put X +1/+1 counters on ~this~, where X is equal to the number of Forests you control.
Trample
1/1
You can't see the wood for the trees

How is putting forests into play in response to the ability any better than putting forests into play, then playing the ability?

I think he means so you can activate in your opponent's turn. You could try Sakura-Tribe Scout I guess.

You get to pay less X and get more counters, I think.

That is the implication, however, for that to actually help, you would need to a) put them into play untapped
b)spend less than 1 mana per forest added (or else you dont gain anything)
c)have more things to do with your extra forests and sneakily-pumped creature.

I don't see a big issue with this (and hey, its a great combo with Terraformer!)

Harrow and Veteran Explorer were all I could find, and the Explorer needs to be knocked off to do anything. I think the wording of the ability could be simplified, though:

X: Remove all +1/+1 counters from ~this~. Put X +1/+1 counters on ~this~, where X is equal to the number of Forests you control.

I'm glad you all like it so. I agree it is unlikely you'll pay X and get an X+Y creature but the possibility is an interesting one and this is a Timmy card.
