"Unpacked" 1st ability - jorloveI wanted to make a pack card from more of a flavor standpoint. I thought about the cockroaches in my apartment and thought how they multiply. Then I thought of the other ability and decided this should be ants. When one ant goes down, the others sacrifice themselves to help it. That's where the Pack 2 ability came from. |

I like it, although Ants don't really Nest. You could have something like "Hivebuilding Ants" or "Moundbuilding Ants" which explains why they're so communal. The only issue is, check out Yavimaya Ants. They're not Ants or Insects, but a Swarm. Speaking of which, how would the Pack rules scale for multiple types? Does it have to match both?
Relevant Ants:
Army Ants - Insect
Carrion Ants - Ant
Fire Ants - Insect
Yavimaya Ants - Swarm
Mistforum Ultimus - Rebel Ant Insect Swarm King Queen Nekrataal Assasin...
Still, the actual insect population is fairly diverse and strong, if not, you know... playable. Push the power level of the card a bit, - I think you can get away with a 1/2 or even a 2/1 for 2.

I really like this card. There is some excellent tension between keeping enough insects in play to start generating more insects and sacrificing enough to really get the most out of the Pack 2 ability.

Normally I would complain about having so many pack cards with multiple instances of Pack (Great Auk was supposed to be the Morphling of pack, not the standard) but you've chosen two abilities which interact so nicely that you get away with it.

That first ability doesn't need to be pack at all though. It's totally useless with one insect out anyway, so why not just make it a permanent part of the card?
