Non-circumcised boys can develop some hygenic issues. I agree that it's somewhat cruel, but I think it actually provides benefits later in life.
Hygenic issues such as what? Judging by the physiology of the situation, I doubt it's anything that simple soap and water couldn't prevent. It's not like leaving a child's foreskin intact would cause him to grow an arm out of his ass or cause leprosy or anything. SOMEWHAT cruel? Have you ever seen that shit? It's friggin' horrifying. And yeah...maybe there are benefits, but there are also stark detriments to it. Are the benefits really worth it? For the record, female circumcision is considered a human rights violation. Why is it that male circumcision is common practice? I'm sure cutting off a female's labia and clitoris would also be more hygenic. For that matter, why don't we also sew our children's asses shut when they're born too?

Yeah, the hygiene argument kind of died post-WWII when people started to take more than one bath a week.
The only real argument left (besides religious ones for Jews) is that you want your boy to fit in. It's pretty fluimsy though and I don't agree.

In the past, hygene issues were more important, and obviously the roots of the practice can be found here. Guys wearing dresses without underwear riding camels through sandy deserts....yeah, back then, it had some serious benefits. By now, while there are some differences, there is rarely a medical reason to circumsize (though it does happen). It's mostly religious or cultural nowadays. From some encyclopedia: Whether or not circumcision has preventative medical benefits is controversial; some argue that circumcision is an essential public health measure, while others believe that there are no benefits to the procedure, and even drawbacks. I don't believe it is particularly painful for a child. And even if it is, they obviously don't remember it later on. It can be an important rite for some people. I think it is a 'neutral' thing to do: I neither frown upon it nor encourage it.

Circumcision generates billions of dollars for the American health industry. That's why the so strongly "recommend" it. Parents do it because they don't want to have their kid teased. OH NO THE TEASING! No kid must ever experience that!
Americans are so silly =)

How often does "are you circumcised?" come up in conversation anyway?
Anyway, congrats Shane. There's a chance I'll be in Richmond, so I hope I'll meet you both there!

No room in the house exceeds a length of twenty-five feet, let alone fifty feet, let alone fifty-six and a half feet, and yet Chad and Daisy's voices are echoing, each call responding with an entirely separate answer. In the living room, Navidson discovers the echoes emanating from a dark, doorless hallway which has appeared out of nowhere in the west wall.

It might come up in the boys' locker room. Of course, it's easily rebutted with "why the hell are you checking out my dong?!?"

Shane,
Congratz on the child, a job well done by the mother.
Let us just respect the choices people make for their children as most parents learn while going along side by side with their children. Who are we to be prosecuter, judge and jury at the same time. People make choices, some good, some bad, but they make those decisions with the best interest of the child at heart.
On a sidenote, the moment these decisions are taken to subdue or torment a person, i will condemn such an action at all time.

!Congratulations on your procreations!! That's sweet. Just think, sooner than later you will come to worship those child pacifying geeks on TV that you used to laugh and point at. I'm talking about The Wiggles, Spongebob, The Backyardigans, Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, and etc. Cool Man. Oh, now that TSP has expanded, does this mean that you people will start to play Vintage again?!?

Very well done indeed.
FYI, TSB, I'll be joining Chuck in the trip south next week, so roll out the red carpet, and break out the whiskey (or moonshine, or whatever you rubes south of the mason dixie drink. Good times shall be had; looking forward to it.

I know I'll be at SCG:Richmond but I"m not sure I'll be playing or not. Last I heard SliverKing is HJ for the Vintage tournament, so if nothing else I will hang out while I sell cards to SCG. The format still seems <WoW to me.

Well, we can T4 between rounds, at least.

I've pretty much decided that I'm not going to play this Saturday...but I plan to hang out and chat w/ everyone, maybe get some t4 in, and relax. Magic (well, magic that isn't t4 or played online with 250 card decks) doesn't appeal to me a helluva lot right now...its just more fun to work on my list of goals for my Paladin in WoW, and (more importantly) a lot more fun to chill with the little guy.
