First i would like to say that magic changed a lot were i left it. I recently got back into it and i quited when mercedian masks came out. So i have a lot catching up to do but i am working on it.

I played a mono black discard deck back then (type 1.5, extended i guess) and i liked the concept of card advantage. Anyway i am working on a B/U card deck and i don't know if its a fish or aggro cause i don't even know what those terms mean exaclty but since ive been reading trough a lot of forums these last weeks i am getting a general idea of the game again. I must say reading that post about the B/U fish helped a lot eventhought it was like reading my own thoughts in most replies. Wich is a good thing bec it means i wasn't off that much. I am definitly going to use this forum more though Wink.

Before i bore you guys even more with my introduction im gonna show a deck i made before i found out about this site and forum. I just have to post this after reading all those threads. Basicly when i saw vial/chalice/pithing needle i thought of a deck and i made a list and started testing it. I know it is definitly not finished or anything but i am going to start with posting a list and i will add my thoughts after i get some replies. Here is the decklist for starters, dont be surprised :p

// Lands
    4 Wasteland
    1 Strip Mine
    8 Mountain
    3 Wooded Foothills
    2 Bloodstained Mire

// Creatures
    4 Gorilla Shaman
    4 Blistering Firecat
    4 Mogg Fanatic
    4 Grim Lavamancer
    4 Spark Elemental
    4 Ball Lightning
    2 Atog

// Spells
    4 Skullclamp
    4 AEther Vial
    4 Pithing Needle
    4 Chalice of the Void

I am working on more info and my idea but for now i just wanted to post it and see what you people think.

First of all, welcome to TMD

Second of all, this post will be locked very quickly, as you bring no results, no testing, and no descriptions of what the deck does.  The posts that stay open
are the posts that spark discussion.  Next time, just add some more content, for instance why you chose certain cards, and how they have been performing, what changes you have made through testing, etc.

Now, on to the deck

This is a normal Sligh deck, but a lot of cards do not belong in this deck.  Here is the list for a sligh deck that did well recently (though sligh RARELY does place very high, just letting you know so you don't get disappointed)

3rd Chris Moon
"TPS" (The perfect sligh?)

4 Fireblast
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
13 Mountain
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Ruby
1 Lotus Petal
4 Gorilla Shaman
4 Lightning Bolt
1 Black Vise
4 Price of Progress
4 Ball Lightning
3 Chain Lightning
4 Pyrostatic Pillar
2 Grim Lavamancer
3 Incinerate
2 Mogg Fanatic
4 Jackal Pup

Sideboard
3 Red Elemental Blast
3 Tormod's Crypt
3 Blood Moon
3 Rack and Ruin
3 Ankh of Mishra

Though I don't recommed playing sligh, this is probably a more stable version.  Firecat is not necessary, and Pyrostatic Pillars should be main to hit combo and other decks.

Atog is HORRIBLE in T1.  You should be playing 4 chain lightning, 4 lightning bolt as well, as both are MUCH better than spark elemental.  The pithing needles are really not needed.  Especially chalice, as you can only set it for 0 or it hurts you badly, and you have 4 shamans already

SB cards
Ankh is good for additional burn, and it also has the benefit of hosing dragon.
Rack is great against stax and other workshop decks
Blood moon hoses most every deck, and is extemely strong against decks that rely on blue duals to cast blue spells
Tormod's Crypt is great against TONS of decks, like stax, dragon, CS, gifts, and tons of others
Red blast is a classic SB card, good against all control.

I will add further deck info as soon as possible. But i think you should playtest this deck so you will see it is not a standard sligh. Chalice is not only for 0 but also for 1 and even 2 with aether vial in play. Skullclamp synerges with spark/ball light/blisering firecat perfectly.

I will make a decent coverage as soon as i get back from school tomorrow Smile

You should check this thread for some help on how to build a competitive sligh deck. They seem to have quite some success with it.

More specifically on your deck:

4 Blistering Firecat and 4 Ball Lightning are not very good. They are expensive (from the T1 point of few) and are killed by Darkblast ( a new card from Ravnica thats bound to see some amount of play). On turn 3 you're better of dropping Blood Moon, seeing as a 4-5cc gifts decks are getting more popular (see MDGoat/Oath Gifts).

Like yespuhyren said, the Spark Elemental should really be Lightning Bolt. I know Spark Elemental combos with Skullclamp, just like Ball Lightning and the Firecat, but really, you won't win the cardadvatage war against any serious deck. Burn is not only better against creatures, it also gives you direct reach. Spark Elemental will die to Triskelion or can be blocked. Lightning Bolt doesn't have that problem (though it can be 'counterd' by Misdirection).

I like the whole deck idea of combining 1 toughness creatures with Clamp, and lost of cheap artifacts with Atog, but I'm afraid T1 is too fast and powerfull for this to work. You shouldn't drop all of the artifacts immediately, since both Pithing Needle and Chalice can be quite powerfull, you just need to play more card that are good on their own. Razz

You guys are probably right. I got carried away i guess. But i do want to stress that i am not trying to make a sligh deck but more of a control/disrupt wich is crazy for red but i want to rtry it Smile

Blood moon/tornod's crypt/red blasts/goblin welder are all cards in my mind yea and maybe even add blue and use more search/draw cards (thirst/ancestrall/standstill...) I think the idea of abusing skullclamp with ball light/cats and spark is playable with vials if it is backed up with the right portion of disrupt and card drawing.

For now i think it is best that this thread gets closed i guess, i got the point Wink
