Free is a dangerous thing. I can't think how this could be that dangerous (Tog and Affinity could use it but have better options) but it certainly looks scary.

Man I would TOTALLY use this in both Tog AND Affinity. WAY too good. To fix it, start by making it so you need to be playing blue somehow, or else any color can play this. :<

Just make it draw 2 cards and then discard a card.

He said make it fair, not make it suck.

I pretty much think it's fine.Β  Not every draw spell has to be useless or stupidly expensive.Β  Ripping this is a howling mine for a turn, and even that only when you just have land, big deal.

How about "if you have no cards in hand, this spell costs U to play."

It should cost 3U, since cousel of the soratami costs 2U.

How about "if you have no cards in hand, this spell costs U to play."

I think that if you did this you could cost it at 4U (so as not to trump Inspiration) and make it an instant.

and it might be templated as:

If [cardname] is the only card in your hand, it costs 4 less to play.

That's actually not a bad suggestion, Slack. Although, sorry to rain on your first post, but Machinus had the right idea. Technically, the spell is not in your hand when you're paying its costs. Therefore, this should check for no cards in hand when determining its cost.

No. No 24h clock. You didn't listen to any of the suggestions given to you by seasoned card creators and didn't change anything on the card. I doN,t have anything to add except that Slack's suggestion is the best so far.

Thank you, Guardian, you beat me to the punch. That was just what I was about to say.

Magus, you need to update the current wording at least to tie this card to blue. Some discussion acknowledging the suggestions that others have kindly made would be nice. Try to explain why you finally chose the option that you did. For the record, I also like Slack's/Machinus's solution.

Strictly better than Inspiration? That's too good, because Inspiration was too strong for 9th. Unless you want to make this rare?

Actually, I think someone in development said they went a little too far with the sorcery speed draw theme, and that Inspiration probably would have been okay to include. I remember reading that was on mtg.com a while ago.

Yes, but my point holds even if Inspiration is "fair", because this is one mana some of the time. This is much, much better than Inspiration, and yet costs exactly the same.

I think it's okay for this card to be better than Inspiration as long as it isn't strictly better. The same goes for Counsel of the Soratomi.

Why not a 4cc sorcery with the same cost reduction I mentioned above? To make this an instant it has to cost at least 5, which is terrible.

Machinus. I disagree. If it costs five mana, then it is comparable to Gush. I don't think anybody would say that makes it bad. In fact, aside from the fact that it boosts 'Tog, returning two islands seems quite a bit more costly than {U}. That, in my opinion, makes it appropriate to cost this at {4}{U} and not be afraid that it would suck.

Ephraim,

I agree with you on this.  I was thinking of the Gush/Inspiration cost difference when I suggested 4U.

Um, magus888 I think you're missing the point of the current wording post. The idea is that your original post has version 1.0 to start the discussion, then a bolded and updated version so people can keep up with the current discussion. A list of the changes is also nice, but certainly not required. By posting bolded updates throughout the thread people are just going to get confused. For everyone's sake, just update the original post if you would.
