The foils are at least as rare as beta rares. I'll admit the price is insane, since you actually have a a lot of cheaper versions of this card, but it's not unlikely that they are expensive bitches. This is definately over the top though :p

i am happy that i got my playset of foil jap foil welders early enough, i thought it was insane when i sold my extra 2 pieces at 220 each but the past 3 auctions on ebay has gone for 255 , 270 and 290
i wonder how much would these babies rise to?

I know a few people on TMD have playsets. I have a playset that is both signed by Richard Garfield, and signed & altered by Scott Fischer. I also have the original pencil sketch for Goblin Welder, because it is one of my favorite cards. Somebody on the East Coast has the original painting though, according to Fischer.

I wouldn't mind getting those, but I already have a set of crimped nonfoils, so I'd have to give preference to those play-wise. Plus, honestly, 1200 is a hell of a lot of money, especially considering the metagame shift (slight, but definitely there) away from Welder.

I didn't get that memo. When did that happen? Last time I saw, in the midwest, more people play with Welders than without them.

I knew foil Welders were worth more than my car, but I didn't think it'd be by THAT much. If this is overcharging, then by how much do you think the overcharge is? Consider that selling a playset is remarkably convenient, and convenience adds more to the price.

Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

Well, as the last three auctions all ended above 250 you're not overpaying a lot for a playset. You may even make an offer of 1000 and get it accepted by the seller.

The welders belong to me, no I'm not ccghouse. Seeing as though a complete playset of Japanese foil welders have never been on ebay, this price is 1000% completely fair (there was a point the BIN price was going to be higher). 1x Japanese foil welder just ended for $290, is the additional $10.00 each card too much to add, for a completed NM+ playset? Lets face it, this isn't an auction for everyone, the future buyer will know the difficulty of finding an unaltered completed playset in 1 place.
Finally, I ask Jeff Anand to come into this thread for me, and tell TMD community what he received in trade, for a "not NM" singular Japanese foil welder. (b/c Jeff prob has no idea who I am on the net, we traded, i had the Japanese welders, and we ate at steak and shake too much) And no, Jeff's trade wasn't w/ some random n00b, it was with a person that was completely current on type 1 pricing.

Hey Matt, I know EXACTLY who you are! Brian DeMars is the current owner of my former Japanese Foil Welder, and I am glad that it finally has a good home. I do not think that $1,200 is an unreasonable price at all, and if I had actually left with more money than I came with after vending at Waterbury, I would've considered buying these for myself. On the one hand I realize that I am playing with Portuguese Foil Welders (which I've seen less of than Japanese ones) and they are pimp and work very well; however, I also realize that they likely won't go down in value any time soon REGARDLESS of the metagame shifts and that they are worth picking up. As the market value for them increases though, more of them are likely to come out of hiding and be brought to the public. Whoever wins this auction should not feel disappointed in any way. -Jeff

I have found and sold a few foil Japanese Welders in my days, if you have a Welder more than likely it would have have passed through my hands at some point. I wish I could have sold all mine @ $300... (I remember 3 years ago when I was ecstatic getting $30 for one) ... but after seeing what Jeff got for trade at GenCon.. I have been asking $300 for when I find one.
BTW, They are not easy to find here in Japan. I spend a lot of time gathering up pimp Asian foils to sell and I am lucky to find 3 to 4 Welders in a year. Almost every Welder that is available in Japan I will get. (Black Lotus is much, much easier to find)
The Saga T1 playable foils are hard to come by because...
Most Saga era players are have quit and have either thrown their unplayable cards in the trash. (Believe it or not, I have bought two trade binders from homeless trash scavengers, no Foil Welders) : (
Trading at tournaments here has really died down here, most players do not even bother bringing a trade binder and the ones that do only have recent T2 playable cards. Here nobody would bother putting junk cards like Foil Chalice of the Void, Foil Recoup, Foil Tendrills, Foil Yawgmoth's Bargain, Foil Rack and Ruin, Foil Tinker in their binder (if they had one).
If you are in need a Japanese foil, LMK.

Me and my buddy tony actually skipped on getting some other higher end cards in favor of rare foil stuff like MM japanese brainstorms and stuff just cause they are much more rare (at least here in california) than something even like a mox...
If I could justify dropping 1200 on a set of cards I dont REALLY need (but would love to have) trust me I would...my quest is on to find 3 more german foil ones now after picking up one of those last weekend...(thanks to mikeatog for that one too...and the bazaar too man, thanks for finding it for me)

If I didn't already have three foil Asian Welders I would have paid $1200 in a heartbeat. A FUCKING HEARTBEAT>
