Bramble Tabard
{2}
Artifact — Equipment

Equipped creature gets +1/+1
Whenever a creature blocks or becomes blocked by equipped creature, Bramble Tabard deals 1 damage that creature.

Equip {2}

***

Tabard -- A short, heavy cape of coarse cloth formerly worn outdoors.

I got my inspiration for this card from the "Thorns" aura from Diablo 2. I wanted to create an aura or an equipment that deals damage to creatures mixing it up with the enhanced creature. The "basilisk" templating seemed to be the easiest to work with and also made this a little bit more powerful than something that waited for combat damage (which would more accurately mimic "Thorns." I considered making this a green aura, but I wasn't sure if it qualified. The notion seems reasonably mundane and Wizards has stated that objects that could actually be made should be equipment rather than auras. That said, if enough people think that anything made out of brambles would need to be magical to resemble a weapon or armour, then I will change this to an aura (probably with a mana cost of {1}{G}. (And please speak up if that's what you want, since that's really the direction I'd rather go with this anyhow.)

***

Current Wording:

Bramble Tabard
{1}{G}
Enchantment -- Aura

Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+2
Whenever a creature blocks or becomes blocked by equipped creature, Bramble Tabard deals 2 damage that creature.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

I like it, ephraim, it is a nice simple, balanced equipment (unlike a certain Jitte, which fits none of those categories). The only changes I can think of make it more complicated, but if you wanted it to be a little more agressive you could always try:

Brambled Tabard
2
Equipiment

Equip 1

Equipped Creature gets +1/+1
Whenever a creature blocks or becomes blocked by equipped creature, Bramble Tabard deals 1 damage that creature.
If Brambled Tabard becomes unequipped from equipped creature, it deals 1 damage to that creature.

Also, I think the name should be Brambled tabard, just because it has a better ring.

I think this makes a lot more sense as an aura, although that would make it seriously weak.

If it would be "seriously weak" as an aura, how weak is it now, as an equipment? For {1}{G}, should this give +2/+2 and 1 damage when blocking/blocked?

It's fine as an equipment--reuseability is a huge, huge bonus to equipment that basically makes them strictly better than auras, even with equip costs.

I'd say +2/+2 and 2 damage. After all, it's not like that'll break the card, and it's an interesting twist on unblockability for green--kind of like the basilisk effects.

Okay, +2/+2 and 2 damage for {1}{G} it is. I was thinking that might be a little bit too powerful, but with cards like Ancestral Mask and Alpha Status out there, that certainly seems reasonable, now that I think about it.

I took the liberty of fixing that typo.
