Am I back?

OK guys, so my laptop got stolen. I left it in a train, noticed that immediately and went back to find it... but the whole thig was gone, in less than 30 seconds while I wasn't looking. That means not only my laptop, but also my USB-stick, two books (one of which belongs to a professor of mine), my mobile phone charger and associated stuff was stolen by some prick who can't even use the laptop because of it's PW protection!

Since this was my only computer, until I get a new one I can only post from other people's machines. Expect me back in full force when I have a new laptop (hopefully soon)!

I hate dishonest people, you know? They see a black laptop bag and instead of taking it to the lost&found, they grab it and take off with it, even though they should know that they can't use even half of everything in there! And meanwhile, I have to struggle to a) get a new machine, b) recreate my lost data since my last backup is from three months ago, c) change all stored passwords just in case (thank god I leave no sensitive passwords stored, like money-critical ones) and d) will have to find a way to do my two uni presentations until the 9th and 10th of January (the preparation until now: also lost). Goddamit!

Almost the worst thing is having to re-do my bookmarks and my eMail contacts. Although I can work from my backup, it still sucks hardcore to get everything back up to scratch... And last but not least, the person who stole my laptop is now also in possession of a Lamy 2000 ink pen that was a much-honored present from my godfather for my confirmation ceremony, with hand-crafted custom nib.

If, by chance, anyone of you notices a very old, battered Gericom Webboy on eBay, I'd gladly accept a link.

So now I go off to sulk in a corner and try to motivate myself to do my presentations -- AGAIN.

*fuming*

Sad

This is why I installed a GPS transmitter in my free PCMCIA slot together with 50 grams of Semtex and a remote detonation device.

Oh great, now Big Brother really *is* watching us. Razz

Dozer: I'm sorry to hear that news. I hope something good happens to make up for it.

"Thanks for taking my laptop, here's it blowing up into your face!" Nice.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I now have a new laptop, have restored most of my important data and the thief has made no attempt to use any data he might have found (yet), so all is safe and shiny. Especially my new laptop! (For those who care about these things, it's a HP pavilion 15" widescreen 1.8 GHz Athlon Turion64, 1 GB RAM, ATI-xpress200 with 128MB non-shared, with DVD-burner for frequent backups. Mostly, it's sleek and shiny, though.)

Now I need to get my uni-work finished. Again. Which is still slightly annoying. But I'll manage... and on Tuesday, most of the immediate stuff is done, and I may be able to sling some cards in between! So all is not well, but getting better fast.
